Hey guys, I am running Leopard but have Tiger installed on an external drive. When I right-click on a file, the Tiger apps will come up in the "open with" menu. So, if I right-click an mp3, for example, 2 versions of QuickTIme will appear, 2 two versions of iTunes, etc.
Is there any way I can get rid of this without unmounting the drive (I need to be able to drag items it it and stuff)?

It's too bad you can't selectively add and delete the apps in the list. Perhaps there's a terminal trick I don't know of to do it.

The problem is that as soon as the external drive is browsed again, the "Open with" list will be repopulated with the Tiger apps. Unless there is a way to tell LaunchServices to ignore a volume, you'll be chasing your tail.

Thanks for the link, idykenano, but I need something like Art said, that will ignore a volume.
And Art, I'm thinking there must be some way to do it--the apps in Time Machine never show up, for example. It's just a matter of figuring out how.

Oh... I remember having to do this about a year ago when I had about three backups on my external, each of which included my applications folder. If I rememeber, I had to trash a .plist and restart. Can't remember which one though... but I remember finding the answer on here. Will dig around and see if I can find anything.
