I'll probably be buying a powerbook and I'm getting closer and closer to choosing the new 15". I have a lot of DVDs from several different regions, so a region free drive is crucial for me. Has anyone enabled their new ALU 15" SuperDrive to watch DVDs from ALL regions? I'd like to know about it. Cheerz.

I don't know if that's possible. On my new 17", the first time I fired up DVD Player it asked me what region I'm in and told me I could only change the region five more times.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear.

Why not just buy the DVDs from your home region? This would not be a problem then.

its not yet possible I don't think to region free the drive - I've got a Tibook, and whilst I've been able to flash it to double the drive speed (and had no problems since), I haven't been able to find any region free flashers.

You're right. We should just do exactly what those ininitely wise individuals comprising the MPAA tell us to do and only watch DVD's produced for our particular region.

whatever.

AFAIK, a region-free firmware patch for the drive in the new PB's (Matshita UJ-816) hasn't yet been released. I guess with the UJ-815 they started encrypting, it so it's more difficult.

Keep checking here, hopefully someday:

No it wouldn't be a problem, if I was only intersted in watching mass produced hollywood ****. Unfortunately my taste is slightly more eclectic then that.
