Does anyone know if it is possible to connect analog speakers to an S/PDIF output. I know that I would need some kind of DAC and that if this is even possible I would lose quality, but I am just wondering if such a device even exists.

Thanks in advance for any help.

While it is true that speakers themselves are analog, there are some speaker sets that have digital inputs. Several high end monitors have them, and I think most computer speakers that are 5.1 also have digital inputs.

You can use a DAC converter and connect the analog outs of the DAC to an amplifier, and then the amplifier to the speakers. The quality loss is dependent on how good your DAC is.
