I believe WYSIWYG font menus rely on an update in the application. I bought Illustrator CS which has that type of menu for fonts, but the versions before it did not. What version of Photoshop do you have?

Adobe's products aren't uniform about this. Illustrator CS and I believe InDesign CS do this, but Photoshop CS doesn't. I think it would require an update from Adobe to get that feature.
