Hey everyone,

I've been trying to get my dad's new iPhone set up on his company's exchange server via Activesync. He, and the rest of his office, use Blackberry's to connect to the exchange server.

The problem is, the IT guy who runs the server is extremely unhelpful, and refuses to touch anything made by apple (one of those guys).

I've been pulling teeth trying to get info from him, and I have gotten various tidbits. Supposedly, Activesync is turned on on the server.

This is exchange server 2003. I have gotten many different addresses, the OWA (mail.company.com/exchange), and a few others, but none of these seem to work when entering in the phone. The most recent peice of info he said was to replace exchange with ExchDAV.

If anyone has set theirs up, or knows the first thing about this, please let me know what to do next! Apparently I'm looking for the OMA (outlook mobile address).

I am pretty much stuck and have resorted to entering all possible combinations of the server names I could think of.

Does anyone please have any tips or advice??

Thank you so much in advance, you will be a lifesaver if you help me get this working!

It really depends on how the server is set up, I think.

My employer uses Exchange 2003, and I was able to set it up without any problems. I just used the same configuration on my iPhone that Outlook used, and it worked.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

My company just moved to Exchange 2007. However, I believe the settings for the iPhone should be the same. For Email put in your dad's email. For server only put in the subdomain address without the /exchange i.e. mail.company.com

Leave the domain field blank. For the User Name put in his entire email address [email protected] (I know that this seems obvious, but when setting up for a Windows account you would only put in their actual user name).

Other than that you should be all set.

Good Luck.

Chris

I've got my exchange company mail setup and have used the company webmail address (in my case webmail.company.ca) as the server address and my webmail password. I can't tell you why this works with my company's setup as opposed to some others but it would be worth trying on your end to see if it works.

My company uses Active Synch for the iPhone and it works great. We just use the account user name, the server name, no domain, and we use SSL for security, so that is on.

I use it, too, and in my case I must have the Domain Name filled in.

I have to delete this account and re-establish it every 90 days when my Exchange Server password expires, so I'm pretty familiar with it. I enter the first four pieces of information: e-mail address, domain, user name, and password. Be sure to get the case right on the domain and user name (my domain happens to be all caps; user name is all lower case). Then, I'm prompted for the server name. I believe the standard format for this is "owa.companyname.com" Your IT guy might think you need "/exchange" at the end, but you don't.

When I originally asked my local IT group about setting up my iPhone, they claimed it couldn't done but sent me a 20-page PDF on how to connect Blackberrys and Treos. They also sent me the name of the Exchange support specialist (on the East Coast), saying "nobody ever gets their PDA set up without spending a lot of time on the phone with him." I got the server info off one page of the PDF and was synched up a couple of minutes later. The specialist eventually called me and didn't believe me at first when I said that I'd already been reading/sending email for a few hours by that time. Another iPhone success story...

I have ActiveSync setup on my iPhone 3GS. At work, they have a guideline on how to do so, but I have to call my corporate helpdesk and asked them to enable ActiveSync on my account otherwise it wouldn't work.
