I'm setting up a Gmail account on Mac Mail. It's a tricky configuration because I'm sending my outgoing messages through my Earthlink server (so that outgoing messages appear that their being sent from my Earthlink account), WHILE outgoing messages appear in Gmail's Sent mailbox. This configuration works perfectly on Gmail's web interface. Gmail's tech support insist it's possible to set this up on Mac Mail, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do so. Apple's tech support doesn't know either. Any suggested guidance? Thanks!

What are you having difficulty with? What is happening?
It should be pretty easy setting up any SMTP server to use any of your IMAP accounts.

I'll do my best to explain... In Gmail, I'm using the settings for "Sending mail through your SMTP server" - so that it appears as though my email is being sent through my Earthlink account - BUT when I send messages through my Gmail account (appearing as an Earthlink address) it ends up in my Gmail's Sent folder. I'm trying to reproduce this behavior in Mac Mail.
According to Gmail's literature, in order to do this in Mac Mail, I ought to "configure your [my]client with two outgoing SMTP servers, one for Gmail and one for your other address." I haven't been able to figure out this configuration to get the desired results.

Why do you need two SMTP servers? I'm not sure I understand.

I'm confused too, this seems pretty easy.
Set up your earthlink account as the outgoing SMTP server.
Choose your Gmail sent folder as the place to store sent mail.
There is no step 3.

Should be child's play. There's separate options for incoming email and outgoing email, make them match what you want and you're done.

Thanks. Yes, there are options that enable one to use another outgoing mail server, but I'm trying to use an outgoing Earthlink SMPT server and have these outgoing messages stored onto my Gmail's Sent Mail box.
I can easily do this in Postbox and Thuderbird, but haven't figured out the same setting in Mac Mail.
Thanks for your help.

Maybe this is the source of the confusion...
When you wrote
Choose your Gmail sent folder as the place to store sent mail.
where exactly is this option located within Mail?

Highlight the mailbox and from the Mailbox menu choose 'Use this Mailbox For' near the bottom.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....
