I just don't see the appeal of the movie outside of the technology, and given the subject matter, I am turned off.

An alien planet inhabited by blue people turns you off? You hate sci-fi or what?

I've been reading nothing but spectacular reviews of this movie. We're just trying to pin down what time to see it on Friday.

Oh, and was it $300 million to make, or $200 million? The article says $200 mil now, but others still say $300 mil. $300 million seems stupidly high.
I believe $200M was the budget of The Dark Knight, and this movie looks a lot more extravagant, so I wouldn't be surprised if it had a higher budget,

It kinda looks like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within meets the Star Wars Prequels plus furries.

If you're going to disagree, it would help if the picture included didn't bear similarities to dif68s posted pics.

Other than the tail, I see ZERO similarities.

You don't see the odd ears? Or the coincidence of them being blue? The tabby-like patterns on their skin? The nose definitely bears some feline qualities.

Yeah, I don't know many animals with blue skin, either. Interestingly, its a common choice in the furries pics posted here.
Hey, I'm not saying these things are carbon copies, but the similarities are there, whether you like it or not. My memory of mainstream movies isn't amazing, but I can't recall any other aliens more reminiscent of furries than these.

It's not so much furries as it is cheeseball erotic fantasy illustration. It's just more fun to say furries.
But really it looks like an expensive CGI version of something crappily drawn by someone who gets off on elf porn.

This movie looks cool. Those people complaining about CGI always complain about CGI. Those people complaining about furries have sexual issues.

The ears look more elvish. Elves aren't furries.
The nose is flat, not outward. Again, not animal-like.
As for the similarities with the tone of their skin, only ONE above had blue fur. One is white, the other is tabby with a blue SHIRT on.
I think you're looking at these with furry-colored glasses. Maybe it's your subconscious telling you it's time to look for something new to wear? Maybe something....furry?

I thought elf ears looked more like Vulcan's, and those ears don't look Vulcan...

It's oddly rectangular, like a tiger's.

You're so precious when you try to be insulting. I'm not the only one seeing the similarities here.

I find it funny that people think they're "furries" when in fact they don't have FUR on them at all.
But keep grasping at straws. Eventually you'll get it right.

Go right ahead. I'll just point out the fact that you seem to believe that a picture of a CGI alien with no fur, claws, animal ears (whatever), animal teeth, or (IMO) noses bears any kind of "similarity" to some crappy art which just happened to be blue and have a pattern on their skin.
And then I'll point out that it's just a movie and you're making more of it than it is for no other reason that you feel the need to make fun of something for your own satisfaction.

Or I'm just not willing to lie to myself about my initial perceptions just because you don't happen to like them. The only reason it seems like I'm making "more of it" is because you feel compelled to defend the movie from my opinion, and I'm obviously going to defend my opinion.

A furry is the anthropomorphic representation of an animal. Not all animals have fur. This is a furry movie, and I'll watch with RiffTrax.

I'm predicting the biggest film flop of all time, it'll make Waterworld look successful. I'll go see it just to enjoy the technical aspects of the SFX, but I'm not expecting much of a story.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I used the same logic before (and I pointed out the tail), but it seems he'll have none of it. Even my wife made a comment about it, and I hadn't even talked with her about the film. "We going to go see that new Furry movie?"

I saw the trailer and I can already tell you what the entire movie is about:
Paralyzed military guy does that Avatar thing. Goes to the planet for reconnaissance, but falls in love with female. Decides he doesn't want to go back to his old life. Finds out that the Humans plan to destroy the existing inhabitants in some immoral war over resources. Sides with the furries. Fights the humans.

I'm with you in theory, but I thought Titantic was an idiotic premise and that thing rolled the box office.
So what I'm saying is, if anyone might pull this off it's Cameron (But relying on 3D as a point of sale isn't helping).

I'm calling it gimmicky in the sense that 3D is not available everywhere, and when this comes on TNT in 3 years, it will be non-existent.
I'd be curious what percentage of people catch this in 3D.

There's one theater in my area playing it in a 20 mile radius in 2D.
Tons others in 3D.

Are you capable of not being a prick during these discussions?
You're near NYC, correct? Wonder how it works for people in more rural areas.

Doesn't he pre-date furries? My knowledge of furries is limited to the fact that some people like to dress up as them and they're really creepy.

I've only seen a few 3D flicks: it turned Superman Returns into a blurry mess and G-Force sorta worked. I'll see it in 2D first.

When you say all vehicles, you mean just the Pelican & Star Ships right? I don't recall seeing any vehicles in Aliens looking a Mongoose, Warthog, Banshee, Ghost, Brute Chopper or Scorpion Tank.

You know what I mean. The human vehicles in Halo look very close to the stuff in Aliens. No, it's not a perfect match, but the similarities are there. And they are very similar.
The look of Aliens was very influential.

I'm beginning to understand Hollywood's push for 3D. You can't cam it in the theater (though who does that, really), and you can't do it at home (yet). And you can charge more for it.
