Is there a script (like /etc/ppp/ip-up) that I can use to execute when a computers IP address changes? I need access to a computer across the country which is on DHCP, and I don't want to have to keep calling to ask what the current IP is. The machine is connected to the internet with a public IP, so there shouldn't be any firewall or NAT issues.

I considered adding a Cron job to update my tables every hour, but the administrator is afraid that the machine won't go into sleep mode while Cron jobs are running. Is that true?

Register a hostname with www.dyndns.org and use one of their many utilities to keep your address updated.
