I am consistently getting errors on Dashboard's built-in stock tracker. Just a minute ago, it showed Bank of America's (BAC) daily change as up over $9.30. The price itself was correct, but the daily change was wrong. When I clicked on the symbol and went to the Lycos Quote.com site, it also showed the incorrect increase. After I confirmed BAC only moved down 32¢, I checked Dashboard again, and the price showed the correct decline. This has happened several times with different stocks (including AAPL) since I started using Tiger. Does Apple need to find a more reliable source for quotes?

Are you sure it's not just an effect of the "data may be delayed by at least 20 minutes" thing?

All my quotes are correct (and by correct, I mean "falling").

It usually corrects itself after I exit and re-enter Dashboard once or twice. The problem isn't with Dashboard but with Quote.com, which is from where Dashboard pulls its data. When I double-click on the symbol, it goes to Quote.com where the price change is incorrect as well.

Again, since ALL the free stock quote places delay data by 20 minutes minimum, that could cause errors due to data that isn't in sync.

I suppose somebody could do the same as they did with some other widgets: edit them to use different data providers.

The problem isn't that the quote is delayed. The problem is that the price is correct, but the dollar change is way off. In my original post, I noted that BAC was shown as up over $9 when it was actually down 30¢.

I understand that — and that's why I said "errors due to data that isn't in sync". If the data provider is grabbing delayed data, then it might be missing some changes that might cause erroneous change calculations. If the "before" and "after" data isn't delayed by the same amount of time, then calculating a difference between them could give wildly wrong results, depending on the volatility of the stock.
