My macBook pro had a keyboard light up/down button in place, but the macbooks don't have that. Is there any function for the F5/F6 key?

Is it different on the MB? On my MBP, F5 is volume up and F6 is num lock (though I do recall that there is no embedded numeric keypad on the MBs). F8/F9/F10 have the keyboard lighting controls.

I like to use F6 for activating spaces and normally leave F5 since it's inherited by most browsers as refresh.

Isn't your F5 mapped to volume?

The MacBooks and MacBook Pros switched to the same keyboard layout as the aluminum keyboards around the same time. It's really annoying too, using a new bluetooth keyboard on an older MacBook Pro, since the keys are different.

It would be less annoying if the functions of the keys could be remapped. With the full size keyboards, I got really used to volume control above the number pad, and I'd manually put expose on the keys about the home/end/page up and such area. Now with the newer keyboard, I can still move expose there, but not the volume control.

Late 2007 MacBook owner here, transitioned from an iBook G4. I welcomed the new keyboard, and as previously mentioned, I use F6 for Spaces; and use the empty F5 key for the Expose' "show desktop" function.

The transition to the new keyboard layout was an easy one, at least for me; it took only a few days to get used to the new layout.
-Core i5 MacBook Pro, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM; iBook G4 1.2GHz, 1.25GB RAM
-5G white iPod 30GB; original U2 iPod 20GB mono; now on 32GB Black iPhone 4
-...oh, and a PC too.
