'Struth, as he explains in his column today. Well, actually in a repeat of an earlier column, but here is the relevant bit:
The new iMac, released last January, has been a big hit for Apple. It's also been the impetus behind the company's in-Bill's-face "switcher" ad campaign, in which Steve Jobs et al. have been trying to lure Windows users over to the Mac side.
I've been thinking about the iMac, those ads, and switchers in general a lot this week. While I'm officially "on vacation," I'm spending my "time off" writing a book for would-be switchers, intended in part to help them make the right choice.
Used to be Coursey was good for little more than flamebait when it came to Apple. But I've pretty much gotten used to him being pro-Apple by now. I guess what surprised me was that someone deemed "switchers" such a potentially lucrative market that it merited having a book specially written and published for it. That shows quite a bit of faith in a steady stream of Windows converts over at least the next year or so. Of course, it may turn out to be kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy: if people see an easy guide to switching from Windows to Mac, they may be more likely to consider it. It might even help those of us who would like to buy Macs for our loved ones, but can't afford to: we can buy them a copy of Coursey's book, and they can buy the Mac.

Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.

i think the kids today are not as dumb as us. i spent a lot of my professional career while computers were using old technology and becoming what is known today.
these kids/teenagers know how to build and program that when they make the first decision to finally buy their own computer, they will not be fooled like the "Mac-haters" of yester year. If they choose PCs...it may be because of value and familiarity but they will not buy the Mac simply because they hate it like in the past.
if anything about the "switch" campaign and apple these days...they're in the spot light and media. They win design awards like nothing. I.D....Industrial Design magazine awarded goddamn awards to each of Apple's new products for god sakes! (innovative design)
as i switched recently...i see this as apple's best time in it's history.
