I couldn't speak for a minute after I seen it. I wouldn't order it just yet though, this is poor investment. I will be the first one to order it when released though.

i'd give this a wide, wide berth if i were you. not only does the product and the fact that someone is taking orders now for something apple hasn't even released sound fishy--this website has been reported for possible fraud. i can't have any sympathy for anyone who gets taken in by this one. (good lord, they can't even fill orders for the 17-inchers yet--but a G5? gimme a break.)

jeez, you people are easily amazed at what someone with a little bit of 3d skill can do.

a) they would never use silver, especially polished, for their cases. its heavy. its expensive, and it probably gets fingerprints galore, not to mention scratching.

b) look at that hinge in the side-on pic. looks like its held together with a toothpick.

c) the screen half of the case is as thick as the computer half. What's in there?

so, this guy's 3d skill far exceeds his sense of design. and this forum has a lot of gullable people

edit: i almost want to order it just so i can see what they say/ship to me.

Anyone who thinks this is real deserves to be beaten over the head repeatedly witha tack-hammer until they are no more than a sobbing mess of tears and blood.

And for those of you who actually put any vital into into the site, godspeed lads, godspeed.

That thing is the biggest piece of ass I've seen in a long time. All necessary points regarding it's non-existance have been mentioned already. Refer to those please.

The very sad thing is, some people probably will send $3300 for a PowerBook G5. What do they say about certain people being born every minute?

http://networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/...&SearchType=do

According to this the site has been up since as early as January 23, 2003, so I wouldn't think twice about sending them $3300 to order a non-existent PowerBook G5.

LoL of course it's not real, people who would assume we think it's real should be beaten over the head

But it's still an amazing mockup

Okay. It's not even a good 3D model. It sucks and it's ugly. The keys are just stuck on without any concern for how the screen would close. The CD slot is poorly photoshoped on. There it no latch or speakers. If someone is going to go this far they better make a little more effort. Most likely it is a ploy to get web traffic. Or a joke about the state of the current 17" lead time. I mean Apple could annouce the new "PowerBook G5" next week and say it will ship in two years. People would probably preorder (if they included a free pair of PowerBook G5 boxer shorts)

Anyone know if the new G5 gets too hot to use?

I ordered mine today and I'm also wondering if its 12" screen can fold out to be 21"

Oh, and I hope it has a fan so I can clean the leaves from the gutter on my roof (for when I work with it on the roof)

Finally, do you know if its waterproof. I've always felt that one of the current PowerBooks biggest shortcomings versus all the other PC laptops, is that you can't use it outside in the rain.

I'm stoked - can't wait.

i'm not supposed to disclose this, but...
i've SEEN the next powerbook.

it's a 3.1 G4, made of the same material as disposable contact lenses.

translucent, and lightweight.
heat is pushed out by a fan, thru a vent at the back, ie sent away from the user.

the whole unit glows.

the keyboard is removable, as is the screen.

the trackpad is split down the middle, with an actual scroll wheel in the center.

the code name IS, in fact,
"brooklyn bridge"

nice!

has anyone clicked on their "about" link? They only accept payment by cashiers check, bank draft, western union or money gram. No credit card, no COD and no escrow. That means once they have your money, you have no way of getting it back. Can you say "scam"?

I just ordered one, with a bogus street address and my valid hotmail email account. We'll see what they say. No money was sent, no credit card, nothing like that at all. I simply filled out the form and I'll wait to see what they say. At the very least it should be entertaining to see how long I can string them along with no $$.

I'd say the maker of the image was just making a mockup, and some lame ass put it on a website "for sale".

Anyway; the model is ****. The guy who did it had at least some skill, but put no time into it.

Anyway. I hope nobody believed it was real... if anyone did... I fear for them...

you'd be surprised..... i certainly am, by the number of people who should see the warning signs all over the place (i'm no longer talking about this particular posting or website) and yet, for some reason, believe themselves somehow entitled to a $500 or $1,000 "discount" on premium mac goods, and so send their money in like anything. let's grant that some scams are really smooth and will take even presumably smart people in (and also, of course, that not every G4 put up on ebay is suspect).... still, the sad fact is that greed and gullibility will get the better of some people, even of us mac users (so desperate are we for our powerbooks! i've yet to hear of a scam involving toshiba satellites or compaq presarios or dell latitudes, although i guess they exist... )

.. ok Toshiba OK... but Dell or Compaq... most people who buy Dell or Compaq just buy right from the company or their local electronics store... besides most scam sites probably use standardized coding so it doesn't look right under their copies of IE 6

You forgot something much more serious: silver darkens after some time (in the scale of month!) when in contact with air and needs regular polishing with special materials, otherwise it becomes total crap. Sorry for the expression, simply the truth.

I could recreate that "MirrorBook" pic in about 2 minutes, with a digital camera, a regular mirror and Photoshop.

Puhleeze.

And that G5 is obviously a (fairly pathetic) 3D model. A few hours work tops, and it's not even rendered very well.
