Hi all,
I've found a guide to upgrading an imac hdd at mac world so am ok about what I need to do but wanted to know if anyone had any better guides to suggest.
Would a 7200rpm drive be ok in a g3 or is it better to stick to a 5400?
Thanks,
Matt

Some say current 7200 rpm drives run cooler than the 5400 that shipped with the iMac. I have a 7200 rpm in mine and it's been running fine for a couple years now. Do you have a specific drive you want to install or are you still looking for one?

Good. The "JB" drives (special edition with 16MB cache) are known to prevent sleep mode on iMacs. I am one of the affected and have searched for a long time for a solution. It is very frustrating and annoying. Your drive should've have any problems but I'd test it just to be sure. You'll hear the drive spin up and spin down continuously if there is a problem.
Also, is your iMac a tray-loading CD-ROM type or slot-loading CD-ROM/DVD-ROM type?
