How to turn off Bonjour printer discovery

Dear Friends,
We have some 10.4 systems in a lab that we want ONLY using specific printer queues. This means that we need to disable or turn off the Bonjour printer discovery aspect of the print dialogue box.
Some research has suggested ways to kill Bonjour altogether but due to Bonjour's relationship with DNS it seems inadvisable. Is there a way to simply prohibit users from seeing and adding Bonjour printers. Thanks!

Well, for starters, you may want to use Mac OS X Server's Managed Client X functionality to specify which printer queues each user/machine/group may use and/or to restrict access to the Print & Fax prefs pane and Printer Setup Utility after using the prefs pane to remove the unwanted printers from the menu.

If you go into Directory Access (Utilities folder) and uncheck Bonjour, does that help? Not 100% sure it will, but it may. Worth a try, worst case.

Right now we are not using a Mac OS X Server to managing the clients; with luck that will happen very soon. The systems are currently bound to Active Directory and that of course complicates things. In 10.4 you can not turn Bonjour off in the "Directory Services" application the check box is there but it is grayed out. Even so everything I've read suggests that turning Bonjour off all together would be very bad on a system level.
Anyway here's the sloppy answer:
Removing mdns from /usr/libexec/cups/backend/ and restarting CUPS or the computer works for the most part. After that users can still "see" Bonjour printers from the dialogue box but if they try to add them they get an error and the OS tries to open the printer system preferences; which we have locked down from non-administrators.
It's not a clean solution but it's holding us over. I will post again if something a little nicer is found or occurs to us! Thanks!
