Hi there,
I am helping a friend update her 15" AL PowerBook to Tiger from Panther10.3.9.
I notice with some alarm that there are 2(two) Macintosh HD icons on her desktop! I don't know what she did for this to happen - and she can't remember! I have never seen this sort of thing before so I am more than a little wary; would it be OK to simply drag one of these icons to the trash in order to get rid of it, or in doing so would I do a lot of damage?
Needless to say I am a little confused!
Any help, as usual, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Do any of those icons have a small curved arrow in it? That would make it an alias, which you can safely trash.

Even so, if you drag a disk to the trash, it won't unmount the startup disk, and any other hard disks you eject that way will return the next time you restart.

Hi tookie,
No, there are no arrows but I dragged it to the trash anyway and did a restart - and heypresto the offending icon did not reappear!
Thanks for the advice tookie.

2 partitions were probably made when installing so basically your hard drive was split in half and each icon is half.

In that case, the second partition would reappear after a restart, however.

Uh, the installer does not by default make more than one partition
