I love the drawings, especially of the cat. But the comic is just never really funny. Except this one:

you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods,
you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen F. Roberts

Yeah, I love the style but they aren't very entertaining.
On a semi-related note, I've been rereading some of the old Garfield treasuries... There were shades of humor and cleverness back then.

The animals are confusing the Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin with Monty Python comedian Michael Palin.

Ah. I caught the lumberjack reference but didn't get what it had to do with Palin.

Michael Palin (traditionally) sang the lead for the Lumberjack song. The second one is referring to Palin as the Cheese Shop clerk. The third one took me by surprise, I wasn't expecting the Spanish Inquisition.

Agreed. It really has slipped lately. And the one at the top of this thread isn't even all that funny. I think the poster just mistook it for funny because he's anti-republican. Same way people mistake the Dixie Chicks for entertaining.

Or it's because I've been watching Monty Python since I was a little kid and I really, really, love their act. They are the best sketch comedy to ever grace television and theater. No one is safe, not even the Queen.
Geeze, I wasn't expecting a sort of Spanish Inquisition.

I actually don't see how it is humorous. Nor do I see the humor in the notion that far-right conservatives who like Palin are somehow disappointed that Lieberman was not picked.
The only ones who are worried about Palin are Democrats, who are not especially happy at the increased enthusiasm among both the base and independents alike. How can anyone conclude that this is worrying for Republicans? This is actually a classic case of projection (tm).

It's no surprise that the PL denizens are completely missing why it's funny.

Sigh. I guess I shouldn't expect people to know about the Spanish Inquisition.

Yeah, it was so easy I didn't realize you actually wanted someone take it.
On the other hand, since when did MacNN start failing to make the obvious joke?

Here's the thing. I've been getting a lot of crappy e-mails lately from friends I otherwise respect saying "take a look..you have to SEE this!!..OMG it's So Funny!!!!!," and it's just some lame ten-year-old recycled joke with Obama/McCain/Biden/Palin added in as the punchline. These are from people who, if the same joke was about Michael Jackson or O.J. Simpson they wouldn't so much as snickered at it, let alone forward it. I can't tell if it actually seems funny to them, or if humor is the trojan horse in which people like to sneak in their propaganda. Which is a pretty good vehicle since, if you tell them 'I actual like candidate X' then they can just say 'hey, lighten up man...I only sent it because I thought it was funny.'
I'm not trashing to poster for dragging politics into here. I'm just saying it's a good example of this weird phenomenon I'm seeing lately... on both sides of the political spectrum.
