Meh. Jailbreaking is just more of a hobby now that the App Store is here.

While I have no use for a jailbroken phone myself I think it's a good thing that people continue to explore what is possible. Apple should not be the only player at the table.

Didn't say it was a bad thing. Just that with the App Store and the iPhone being introduced into more countries the demand for "jailbroken" iPhones will dwindle. It will become more a of hobbiest tinker tool, like desktop Linux distros.

Jailbreaking is handy if you need to get access to apps that ...
a) Apple will refuse to let on to the App Store,
b) were once on the App Store but are now gone (NetShare), or
c) are available for free as unofficial apps but only available as pay solutions on the App Store (all Terminal/SSH apps)

The App Store is cool and all, but Apple is pulling all of the strings. I don't like them deciding that I shouldn't have access to a tethering app, for instance. My carrier allows tethering for the data plan I have.

Well, how about using all those themes? Don't you think the phone looks DULL otherwise? I can't live without the background image.

I've yet to see a theme that doesn't scare the bezeesus out of my brain's taste center.

To each his own, though.
