Been there for 5+ years. Got terminated by email today saying it was effective December 31, 2013. No advanced notice at all.
Not really my fault nor my boss' fault as the biggest client we had terminated the contract between the two companies without notice (although I am sure my boss had some idea that this was going to happen). The rest of the company may possibly end in a few weeks time.
I'm not really worried, but am a bit sad. I have other sources of income coming and I have no mortgage, family, etc, and I have a lot of savings, so I am ok from a financial standpoint. From a moral and historical standpoint, a bit sad.

Yow!
What did you do (in a general sense, I'm not trying to pry).

Nothing at all. Had favorable reviews. It is just the biggest client we had terminated the contract, and thus, there was no more money to pay us all. The entire company will fold it seems and soon.

That sucks, especially the unexpected notice, via EMAIL. Did they give any compensation package?
What kind of business?

Yeah, well, my boss is never at the office, so email would suffice. No compensation package since I was just a 1099 employee. As for the other non-1099 people, I am unsure. They are in limbo since they will most likely be terminated also soon.

Oh crap...
I didn't mean what did you do [to get fired], I meant what did you do [at work].

I don't want to give out too many details, but we were a small company, but did very important work. Top 10 in our field overall.

Fair enough.
That's why I said "general sense". Didn't want to put you on the spot.

Good luck man. Reminds me of my last job. Everyone got called in for a company conference and they decided to close the company down 3 days before Christmas, after about 5 months at the company.
