So my hard drive on my 12in Powerbook died a week ago and Apple replaced it. So now I have a fresh HD and a fresh install of OS X. I'm trying to make everything back the way it was, except that I can't get any icon to work on my HD. I can change any other icon on my computer, but not the HD icon. Any ideas?

Is the icon in the correct format?

I repaired user rights and have restarted several times, nothing works! This is so annoying.

Right click on your hard disk, select 'Get Info' and check 'Ownership and Permissions' to make sure you have read/write access.

I do have read write access, and I am the owner. Still no dice.

This is very odd. 99 times out of 100 this is because permissions on the drive are set to System - Read Only. Setting them to "Your User Name" - Read/Write should've done it.

I would recommend either using Pixedex's drop feature (just to see if it works that way) or using Cocktail or similar app to repair permissions fully, then restarting, and trying again.

Good luck.

What do ya know, the Pixadex drop feature fixed it. And to think, I had pixadex in front of me the entire time.
