I am very sad. He was an amazing figure. Rolling Stone quoted him as saying (about singing Jim Steinman’s songs) “I sang every song we ever did in character,” Meat Loaf told Rolling Stone in 2021. “I left me. I was not method. I didn’t have to find something in my past life to be able to sing his songs. I became the song.” As a fan since Bat Out Of Hell came out in 1977, I can really see that.

We got to see him in person once, at San Antonio’s Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. And every song was “performed,” not at all like any of his other performances…it was like he was trying a new spin on each song every time he sang it.

Rolling Stone, in their piece on his passing, said his career really took off after Bat Out Of Hell was released and his appearance on SNL. This one was guest hosted by Christopher Lee. His intro was memorable. I saw that one on its first run, and I can remember it quite clearly to this day.

Marvin, we’ll miss you like you wouldn’t believe.

*sigh* It appears Mr. Loaf was anti-mask, anti-vax and died of covid.

So far the cause hasn't been verified. There was a lot going on in his life in the last couple of years, and I'm not sure I'll buy a lot of what I've "heard" unless the family confirms it. And frankly, I'm not looking too hard for stuff that lessens his image. I'm tired of having entertainers I really liked dragged down because other folks didn't like something they said off-hand.
