Just watched this interview by the very professional CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi, wherein he talks to Billy Bob Thorton's band The Boxmasters. Thorton proves what a total d*ck he is by copping an attitude because the interviewer mentions his film career. How can you not mention that? Would anyone know who he is, otherwise? Apparently Thorton thinks a few low-selling albums makes him another Tom Petty.

Personally, I've seen his movies, I've heard his music and honestly the only memorably thing this guy has ever done was sleep with Angelina Jolie (still scratching my head about that one).

Yeah. The funny thing is: it's quite obvious that Billy doesn't need to work as hard as they have to, because he *is* famous already.

But in a sense, his asshattery makes it harder for them to get the same fame from the music.

Hmmm... He seemed completely stoned out of his mind there. Either that or mentally ill.

The reactions of the other band members are priceless though. They seemed totally embarrassed and pissed at the same time.

P.S. What does the screen at 4:58 say? It seems the producers were thinking of going to plan B. I can make out: "If this really goes sideways - I have new Moll [???], new Metric standing by." I'd post the screengrab, but the Dreamhost server seems to be down

Thank you for posting this link. As a student in a school that has lots of professional musicians coming through, I want people to know that only a handful of them are how BBT was in that video. 98% of the pros that I have met here have been grade A personality people.

One ironic aspect to all of this is that Jian Ghomeshi was the lead singer and drummer for Moxy Fruvous (iTunes link), and has earned more respect as a musician than BBT will likely ever earn.

BTW, why are Neil and Metric new?

If you mean "Why was he pointing that out," he was telling the host that he was free to end the interview and kick the band out if Billy Bob got any worse, because they had something else to cover the time.

The gravy train has pulled out of Canada.

The Boxmasters, who were scheduled to open for Willie Nelson in Montreal Friday, pulled out Friday morning.

"They just called us and they said that instead of two (opening acts) there'd be only one because Billy Thornton (dropped out)," confirmed Carmen Boily, the box office co-ordinator at Place des Arts. "They didn't give us any reason."

London, Ont.'s John Labatt Centre, where the Boxmasters were scheduled to play Saturday, announced the cancellation Friday on its website.

"Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters will not be appearing," said the site, with no further explanation.

A statement on Willie Nelson's website was equally brief.

"At this time, no reasons have been announced but the remainder of the (Canadian) tour will continue as scheduled without The Boxmasters."

Thornton was booed during his performance Thursday night at Toronto's Massey Hall -- a day after describing Canadian audiences like "mashed potatoes but no gravy" during an awkward interview with CBC's Jian Ghomeshi, host of the radio show, Q.

"Boo all you want, but I want to say something," Thornton told Toronto crowd. He then called Ghomeshi an "a--hole."

Saw this today, and couldn't get over how much of a jerk BBT is.

The whole incident did get me curious about the band's sound though, so I listened to a few songs. The music is okay, but Billy Bob is a horrible, horrrrrrible singer. No wonder he's so irritable.

A lot of brown-nosing going on there. Anyways, BBT seems to suggest he was just being intentionally assish to Jian Ghomeshi, because Ghomeshi broke the agreement (that BBT's spokesperson claims didn't really exist). I still think he was probably high though.
