Ive noticed at Newegg there are things called Drive Docks.

I used to use and still have external enclosures that I moved around my older drives. there were firewire 400 and hard to find.

now on my MacPro I have a few LaCie firewire 800 enclosed drives.

Im looking for a "drive dock" that would take my extra sATA-2 (300GB) that Ive exchanged for 1TB models.

all I can fine are USA2. Id really like to fine firewire 800, but 400 might be OK

thanks and cheers

They exist, but they're pretty expensive. iStar and WiebeTech each have one for about $100.

Note "SATA-2" is a misnomer... oh I give up.

You can get docks with USB and eSATA for $35. Attach to your MP via eSATA and it'll be faster than using FireWire.

They're actually quite cheap.

But you already have internal SATA ports on your MP's MLB so in principle you can do it for even less. You can get the appropriate cable and route it out the back. Just make sure you don't mix up SATA (internal, on the MLB and on the drive) and eSATA (external, on the dock). Then there's always brackets too if you want to be fancy.
