Some dorks at a company called "ZyTrax" running a site called Browser ID Strings (a.k.a. User Agent ID) are apparently having a fun time in making fun of Mac-users, and I think it's high time that we give these folks a taste of their own medicine.

In the third paragraph from the top of their home page, they write the following:

We got a hard time recently from a Mac user who objected to the fact that we used MAC to describe the Mac or mac or imac (but never MAC). Well we guess if you pay that much for your pc (or PC or Pc) you at least want it given the right name.
But then, in the entry under "Camino," they continue to write the following:

Camino (ex Chimera) 0.7 on a MAC.
Below that, they write again, as if to rub in the point:

Chimera 0.6 on a MAC??.
Apparently, they do this deliberately, and it's NOT accidental.

According to their Company Background page, they are apparently a Canadian ISP solutions provider making solutions for Windows products.

I propose that we all send them, [email protected], e-mail messages similar to the following:

HELLO WINDOZE USERS:

> We got a hard time recently from a Mac user who objected to the fact that we used MAC to describe the Mac or mac or imac (but never MAC). Well we guess if you pay that much for your pc (or PC or Pc) you at least want it given the right name.

> Camino (ex Chimera) 0.7 on a MAC.

> Chimera 0.6 on a MAC??.

AS EXEMPLIFIED BY THE ABOVE EXAMPLES, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT YOU CONTINUE TO MISSPELL "Mac" AS "MAC" ON YOUR HOME PAGE. WELL WE GUESS THAT IF YOU LIKE CAPITAL LETTERS THAT MUCH AND DELIGHT SO MUCH IN CHOOSING WINDOZE (OR Windoze OR windoze), YOU AT LEAST WANT TO GIVE IT THE RIGHT NAME.

KEEP ON DOZING, WINDOZE-USERS,

A Mac (NOT "MAC") User
----- proposed message ends immediately before this line -----

Please post any other suggested messages to them here, and let's start opening the fire hydrant!

Actually, they just replied to my message, as follows:

Thanks for taking the time. Honest we get the message
all new entries -
promise - will use absolutely use Mac and absolutely
not MAC. But dammit
I'm not going through the whole page - well perhaps if
any more of you
Mac (see) users write I might be forced to.
Listen as far as I am concerned Macs are just decent
FreeBSD machines
with a GUI (spit).
Seriously thanks for taking the time and keep on
sending in those MAC
oops Mac strings.
Regards
Apparently, the effort wasn't such a waste of time, after all.

You know, the irony of this is that they probably spell it "MAC" just to get the very same kind of e-mail that you sent them. They probably sit there around a computer laughing at all the e-mails they get from Mac users with too much time on their hands bitching about the spelling.

It's not friggin' important.

Imagine this is an animation:

Trying to give a rat's ass…
………………………………………
Unable to give a rat's ass.

Seriously, who cares if some site somewhere capitalizes a brand name incorrectly?

According to their reply it seems they like BSD and are command line geeks. Combine that with them being in the ISP business, you'd think they'd want to distinguish the computer "Mac" with a vital part of all networking cards - MAC (Media Access Controller).

But really, they're dorks. Who cares what they think?

These amateurs are not Dorks.

Geeks, maybe. Nerds? Perhaps. Or even Twerps.

But definitely not Dorks.

It's mails like this that give these people all the right to make fun of Mac-users. Please try to appear like you've at least outgrown your sandbox argumentative abilities before even trying to use the internet.

Don't be an ass and that goes for the rest of you, too. Why the heck do you feel like you have a right to belittle others' threads just because you don't care? If you're not interested, then don't respond, period.

At least share your opinion in a respectful way. Otherwise, don't expect to be treated respectfully by others.

And, DekuDekuplex, forget about those petty people and their petty web site. It is not worth your time.

i just wouldn't be macnn if people didn't rip on each other. sometimes people go over the line but in general you should be able to ignore comments you don't care for.

50% of the population is below average intelligence. 90% of the population uses windows. Do the math. That means, MOST PC users are ****ing morons. So you shouldn't care what they think.

I really think that a lot of people hang out on these boards for exactly the opposite of what you are talking about. These boards are entertainment to most, not any kind of community. Respect isn't given most of the time and most don't expect it on this board.

Regardless it's not right to ridicule others.

Entertainment is fine, but entertainment at the cost of another is wrong. Unless proven otherwise, respect should be given to others. And though it may not be expected, I am sure most on this board wouldn't mind receiving some.

I think many people like to hide behind the relative anonymity of the terminal. I find it hard to believe that most people on here would say such harsh and insulting things to others in person.

There are numerous other threads about which you're right. In this case, though, all they said is "I don't care." And you know what? I don't care what a couple of Canadian Unix weenies think when they get e-mail from pedantic Mac users.

Maybe you would have preferred if I'd stuck out my pinky and chided him on his rudeness in publicly correcting these poor, uneducated young men?
