I am need of a printer, but I don't know which one to buy.

1. I want to print photos.
2. I will also print a lot of papers (college!)
3. I don't have a lot of money (college!)

I saw a HP printer for sale on MacMall that said it printed great photos for only $89. This seems a little too good to be true.

I have a friend who has a Canon that DOES print great Photos for around $300. (The one that holds 5 ink cartriges). This is too much money.

And finally, if I see the same printer on a place like Macmall.com and the Apple Store, should I buy from one over the other?

Thanks

Don't buy an Epson, I'm happy with my HP deskjet, which is fast and reliable. Perhaps the most important factor is not the price of the machine itself but the price of the cartridges, cheap printers sometimes have very expensive cartridges ( Lexmark )....

He is right. Epson is so bad it is not even funny. I have a collection of them in my place. They are under a year and not broken, they just barley work properly in the first place. For me it is Canon all the way.
