Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me out with my new (to me) iPhone 2.5G unlocked. It works just fine on Vodafone UK. But I am a bit concerned about what I need to do to set-up my mail so I don't get an outrageous charge for getting my email. Any set-up tips would be useful. There is so much out there to read and I am not sure what to do or who to trust. If anyone with UK Vodafone and iTunes experience could help I would appreciate it.

Joe

Hey Joe, I rarely use e-mail on my mobile devices but I'll try to give you some advice (might help a bit or be the opposite of what you mean). Ok I know 2 ways of getting e-mail on your iPhone:

1- Set-up your own mail account on the iPhone (i think it's in settings) and use it when you have wi-fi available. with wi-fi you can check all your e-mails for free and faster

2- If you want to be able to check your e-mails wherever you are then I dont have much experience with that but I know it will cost quite a bit of money. The only ways I know how to get e-mail on a phone is the one above (wi-fi) or you have to speak with your operator (Vodafone UK) so you can set up an e-mail account which will cost you periodically (monthly, weekly, yearly... I dunno)

I've never been in your situation so I don't know if ANY of this was at all helpful or if I just wasted a few minutes writing it and you wasted half a minute reading it. But I hope it was somewhat helpful

I'd suggest getting a data plan with enough data so that you don't have to worry about your email putting you close to your limit. Failing that, go into your mail settings and set it to check for new messages manually - then you can check your email on your schedule, probably when you have a wifi connection, instead of the phone's schedule. Assuming that your unlocked phone is also jailbroken, you could also use a utility to just turn Edge off, which would stop Mail from being able to connect over the Vodafone network.
