Is there a way to test whether Google Meet works on any of my rather ancient devices? I have doctor appointment in August, and their intake meeting is done remotely on Google Meet. I already tried installing the app on my iPad, but it required a newer OS than the pad can run. I don't know if GM will work through Safari on the pad, but I'm assuming not (that, or, I would end up in a loop where the website sees I'm on a mobile device and insists I install the app, which doesn't install, etc. etc.)

The other two devices are my old iMac, which is the device I would prefer to use, and my iPhone 6s. I would prefer to use the iMac, but there is no app that will install on it. The GM website seems to work, but without actually trying to enter a stream, I have no idea. The only guidance the GM site offers is to install the latest version of all the usual browsers. I use Firefox, but it on the ESR channel, and I can't use the newest normal release. I imagine the 6s will work, but I'd really like to have a bigger screen.

Zoom used to have a page where you could test your browser to make sure it would work, before you ever joined a stream. GM doesn't seem to have anything like that, as far as I can find, anyway.

This is a stab in the dark, but for Google shit you probably want Chrome.

Probably. But the iMac can’t run anything close to the latest version of that, either. As for the iPad, Chrome in iOS is just Webkit under the hood, right?

Gotcha!

That is the case with iOS Chrome as I understand it, but the differences can still cause issues. Frex, the iOS account manager needs to render webpages for dealing with Google accounts, and Safari doesn’t render certain pages properly. A bunch of my Gmail accounts are currently unavailable on my phone because of it.

Sorry to say, I believe my iMac is stuck on 10.9.

Stuck for operational reasons, or Apple's official OS compatibility?

In most cases, Macs can be upgraded much farther than Apple recommends. What's the model exactly?

It’s operational. I use Adobe CS5, specifically Illustrator and Pshop. From what I have come to understand, Illustrator especially starts acting a little wobbly in MacOS above 10.9. It’s a late-2009 21” iMac.

Officially goes to 10.13.6 (High Sierra). Unofficially goes through 10.15 (Catalina) at least. Anything past Mojave needs the APFS firmware boot patch. Graphics card support becomes more of an issue beyond Catalina.

Do you have enough space on your boot drive for another partition? You could keep 10.9 around for CS5, and use a later OS for everything else. If you have an SSD boot drive, switching OS takes about a minute.

There's just over 300GB left on the drive. Not sure that's enough to do a partition and still have enough free space left to keep things running adequately fast. I'm also not sure I want to go to all that trouble just on the off chance I can use Google Meet.

5.5 runs fine on 10.11. Not sure about 5-not.5…

If I recall, Adobe made 5.5 a priced-like-a-full-version update to 5.0, and not the usual included point version update. I opted to skip it, for cash-flow reasons.
