After doing a noobie search on this, I'm still having a big problem. I decided to install Panther on my B&W G3 currently running OS 9.1. I purchased what is supposed to be the universal 10.3.3 Installer on DVD(s). The DVD mounts to desktop, but will not let me run the installer or boot from it (original item could not be found). Holding 'C' key at startup just brings up a blank, grey screen.

So I start to wonder if these DVDs are for specific Macs or something. The vendor claims they should install fine on any Mac (BTW, they are labeled as: iBook G4 Software Install and Restore 1 of 2 & 2). They offered to swap them out, but the discs don't appear to be scratched or anything. So the other option is to send them back and xchange them for the boxed retail 3-CD version for an aditional $50 (? not sure I wanna give these guys any more money). Are these compatible with my B&W, or did I get hosed by the vendor? I'm wishing now I held out for Tiger.

Those are indeed machine-specific DVDs. The plain old 10.3 install discs only come as a CD set.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Thanks for the confirmation. Gonna try and get those clowns to send me the right discs without sending them any more money!

Maybe you can try to get your money back and then get Tiger in a couple of weeks.
