This happened down in Richmond, VA.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/16/com....ap/index.html
apparantly the Henrico school system was selling about 1,000 of its Apple ibooks (about 4yrs old) for $50 first come first served. People lined up and when the doors were open, a madhouse ensued. I know Apples are all that , but a man getting trampled? A baby carriage getting crushed? A person trying to drive his car into the line ? crazy.
Good lord, wth those pics you would think they were giving away free $1,000,000 lottery tickets. Seriously, those pics look like extras from the filming of the War of the Worlds!

That is crazy I was just posting the same thing. I posted a link about the sale a few weeks ago and my post got deleted. People go nuts.

all this for a cheap laptop. to what lengths would people go if getting through that gate was a matter of life or death? mabye not insulting to mac owners but just people in general. this is truly pathetic. i'd be willing to bet that many people there didnt even want a laptop they would just buy it and turn around and sell it on ebay.

All could have been avoided if they had people interested register then do a lottery. We get to see first hand how stupid many people are. Thank the gods these people aren't running the government. :-)

This is not one of the riotBooks. Look at the start time of the auction - it was a week before the sale took place. He says he's a senior in Henrico county.
