I was using screen sharing when It happened. I had woke it from the screen saver, then let it idle or a few mins, then I went to enter a command in terminal on the MacBook and boom, kernel panic.

It looks like the Airport driver. I sent the report to Apple. What do you think?

I had similar issues under Tiger from time to time. They were repeatable if (1) connected over wifi/airport AND (2) if using BitTorrent AND (3) if using TunnelBlick (VPN). After so many hours active and downloading, my MBP C2D 2.16 would kernel panic or just lock up. Forced power off and reboot was the only way to fix it.

Under Leopard, I haven't had those issues.

Yeah, I have yet to have another KP when connecting via screen sharing. Hopefully this one was a fluke...

I assume you've rebooted your Airport Base Station since you upgraded to Leopard?

I had very slow internet connection after I upgraded, but a reboot of my Airport fixed it.

I have the exact same issues. I have a MacBook Pro, and my regular activity of Safari, iTunes, Adium on WiFi can cause the kernel panic as above.

And on reboot, I see this in the logs:
[codex]
Nov 2 09:35:59 Poseidon configd[14]: Error: No interface name AirPort_Athr5424ab
[/codex]

Airport is functional, though.

OK, just had another kernel panic. This time it was while watching a youtube video. When I rebooted I didn't get a crash reporter error box and when I looked in Console I couldn't find anything (I have no panic.log)

Is there a Apple Store visit in my future?

edit: I just realized that I was screen sharing with the MacBook again. It seems to be a pattern...

Huh, that could explain it. I have my keyboard, mouse and monitor on a Belkin KVM switch. My Mac was fine before I switched to my other device but when I switched back it was at the kernel panic screen. I never thought a kvm switch would cause that but.....

The previous post being an issue with Airport and Atheros was obvious but could the following be? And yes I have 10.5.1 and experience kernel panics/crashes at least once every hour):

Many thanks to all,

Georgios

Is Leopard allergic to firefox??? I've had the same problem also when not running firefox...

Mac OS version:
9B18

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386
System model name: iMac5,1 (Mac-F4228EC8)
I would think this is more of a RAM issue, since it doesn't point to any particular piece of hardware. Firefox was probably munching away at some RAM at the time which is why its process is listed. What computer do you have, have you installed any RAM in it, what RAM, when etc.

I had my first one in years, too. In this case it appears Cisco VPN, which adds a kernel extension, is the culprit.

My wife has been having trouble with kernel panics recently, running wirelessly connected to my iMac sharing its internet connection. This was the error (AirportAtheros) in the panic log. On a hunch, I checked the system log on my iMac to see if there were any events that seemed to correspond to her kernel panics (since there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it based on what she was doing at the time), and I think I found it. In the logs, at least for a few of the kernel panics she had (I didn't check them all yet), it says:

ntpd[160]: time reset 0.446751 s

or something of the sort. That is: My iMac reset its time, and then more or less immediately, she got a kernel panic. I don't know enough about what Airport is doing to know what the time information has got to do with it, but it appears that her MacBook (10.4.9) does not handle the abrupt change in time well.

Not sure what to do to solve it, maybe I should stop allowing my computer to reset its time over the network for a while until the issue is solved. But I hope this provides a clue for someone who knows more than me.

I have the newest version of the 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 10.5.1 system, on the newest black macbook. Since having the book with leopard pre-installed, I upgraded my RAM two times. Once from FRY's, using a Corsair 4gig, 5300 ddr2 (2 2gig sticks) which resulted in a kernel panic. It would occure anytime i used my optical drive. specifically if i were using toast or things of that sort. Because of this problem happening only with that RAM in it i returned it for my money back and went elsewhere. the second time i purchased my 2 2gig sticks of RAM was from OWC macworld.com. This place i know has better products from past friends getting things like RAM from them. I just put the new RAM in and it just did the same exact thing. This time new product, different manufacturer same specificications directly for my computer. I dont get why this keeps happening. Both times i was put threw a process to get the exact RAM specified specifically for the latest black macbook and my specifications. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP!!?

Does it happen with the original RAM? Does it happen with only one of the 2GB sticks?

I think you missed my question.

You have 2 x 2GB sticks of RAM to = 4GB.

I asked if you'd tried one 2GB stick at a time to see if the problem still occurred.

O sorry, yes i did do that as well. Only on this second pair though, not on the first. I also took out the battery and held the power button down 10 seconds and start it up again.

and when i used one at a time they both worked fine. I am beginning to believe, although it says its able to handle 4gigs it really cant. and that i should just return what i have now and downgrade to 2 gigs.

You could try 3 gigs. Is it OK with just a 2GB stick in either slot?

yea it works out just fine with one 2 gig stick in either. Also I would assume that it would run even faster if it was split up. As in, if I were to downgrade to 2 x 1GB sticks it would run more efficiently because of the duo processor running between the two slots rather than 1 slot with ram and another vacant of any. Does that sound right?
