Kids suck.

So got two noobies. One playing with his sister. <-- so they say.
Sister complains that I shot her (extra splash from shotgun) while I saved her from the Hunter.

So the brother just starts running around shooting me the whole time, because I was being MEAN to his sister.

So P.O.ed. I just quit and went to a new game.

Disappointed since I really only had time for one run through so I didn't want to start from the lvl 1 of another campaign.

Crash Course Campaign Due in September

August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.

For more information, please visit www.l4d.com

Why is it free for the PC and cost 560 points on X-box Live? A recharge timer for infected teamates? Not sure what they mean by that. This makes me not want to buy L4D2.

I'm guessing the recharge timer is so you can see where other team mates are with their powers? I've been bitched at before when I've been stanind around with the boomer waiting to puke again.

Also, thank MS for them having to charge.

Yeah, MS doesn't like free content on Xbox Live.

Isn't it that if a DLC is to have added achievements, you must charge for it? I thought I read that somewhere.

Stupid rule, if that is indeed the case.

Yes, that's true. But I'm sure Valve would abandon them if they could get it out free.

I have to give Valve some credit: I think they managed to get Survivor mode in for free, and most DLC starts priced at $10, but they managed to enter this at $7. They're definitely fighting MS.

Haha, 360 users get the DLC for $7, Steam users get the entire game (including that DLC) for only $8 more.

I've tried it. It really did feel like just a new map, though there were a few new trinkets to play with. Killing zombies with a frying pan = WIN.

Really? You didn't notice the endless stream of jockeys and chargers, as well as the fact that the game literally throws up walls in your way?

The Jockeys and Chargers I noticed, and I do rather hate the Jockeys, but I don't know what walls you're talking about.

I really am just not excited about L4D 2. The first one was fun, but the novelty wore off fairly quickly. Also, with my recent purchases of MW2, Borderlands, and Dragon Age; I think I will be occupied for quite some time.

after limited time with the LFD2 demo: feels like a graphically updated version of LFD1. some new weapons, some new zombies, but essentially the same. the ability to blow the parts off of enemies and the armored zombies are nice touches, but i'm not sure these tweaks necessitated a sequel. i'm sure i'll feel a bit different after a bit more exposure to the new game. i didn't play around too much with melee weapons. the guitar was somewhat satisfying.

Sorry, thought I had responded to this before, but clearly that was bizarrely wrong. If you're still interested, here are my thoughts from playing the demo (somewhat longish, but whatever, feel free to skip the boring parts):

I agree with everyone who says it's a lot like the first game. The core gameplay is very similar. But I mean, I think that's OK in a sequel. Halo 3 was a lot like Halo 2, Marathon 2 was a lot like Marathon 1, Mega Man 9 was a lot like Mega Men 1–8. I liked the original Left 4 Dead, and this plays like a generally improved version of that.

I generally like the new special infected, though I think the jockey is a little bit overpowered in a way I can't fully explain. Both he and the charger are essentially variations on the hunter, but where a hunter can be swatted away or headshotted while he's going in for the pounce, the jockey seems to magically teleport 10 feet onto your back as soon as you look at him. It's a weird mechanic, but I guess it's to make up for the fact that he doesn't have the hunter's insane walking speed. Even with his creepy shamble, he still manages to get the drop a lot. I like both the charger and the spitter. They do a good job of keeping the game from turning into a straightforward turtlefest where you can just sit there meleeing until your trigger finger falls off, but they're limited enough that they don't negate the teamwork aspect of the game.

The new weapons are a mixed bag. The actual primary weapons featured in the demo are essentially the same as L4D. There are technically more of them, but most of them are so similar that it works out to basically the same set of guns. The melee weapons are much cooler. There's just something satisfying about smacking zombies in the face with a guitar. The melee weapons are the biggest change to the gameplay IMO. Knowing when to go melee and when to keep your gun ready is key. They're really useful for, for example, fighting off boomer hordes.

I definitely plan to get it. I've already got a party lined up.

All I have to say is God Damn this current gaming gen, far to many awesome games.

I wish I had a Wii so I could get a breather from awesome games once and a while.

And it's true. I pretty much only get first party games on my Wii with a few exceptions. Gonna be picking up New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy 2, but otherwise the only games I might consider are Modern Warfare Reflex and MadWorld, which I should have had a long time ago anyways.

I'm still not really a big Amazon user. Something about buying video games from a shelf keeps me coming back to it. I've only ever made two digital purchases either, and both recently. Dragon Age and L4D2, both on Steam.
