Newer features demand newer hardware, simple as that. If you can live without these then there's no reason to upgrade.

Android is all over the place at the moment. I was really hoping it would develop into serious competition for the iPhone but right now it looks like Windows Mobile might just beat it to second place. What i've seen so far is looking mighty fine.
I hope that you're wrong, but one thing is sure : having a few 'serious' players in the market is certainly good for us consumers.

Absolutely. I am looking forward to read about your experiences. From what I understand, tinkerers and IT specialists tend to like Android, so the cards are stacked in your favor.

I think Android is a great idea, but its complete openess is working against it. MS seems to have learned from that with Mobile7, allowing only for the most basic skinning and very few carrier adjustments.

Ironically, one of the reasons that I stopped using Linux at home and went over to OSX was the endless configuring that was needed to make things work. Hopefully my mobile won't be the same.

Agreed. We bitch about control, but it does have its advantages.

Don't worry, me and Phileas will be arguing over global warming or guns or Android again after the summer.

That´s OK. I put things in perspective. It´s just a phone that I didn´t like. I didn´t let it creep over my head. I got a replacement and moved on.

The most ironic thing of all is that I don´t like to talk over the phone, but I *DO* really need my contacts and email there all the time and the DEXT is not , as is right now, capable of what I want it to do.

I gotta say I wanted Android to work out, I really did. I thought it would be a great way for a third major software platform to come to market. I was wrong though. The fact is that if you play with some of these 1Ghz phones, the interface is still choppy, how the hell does an interface pull off being choppy on a 1Ghz processor!? It's a freaking phone people!

I played with an SE X10 a while ago at a Rogers store, I was excited for this phone since I hoped it would be a really slick Android device that would keep Apple on their toes. It isn't, it's laggy and bloated and huge.

I remember playing with Android 1.6 on the HTC dream and magic when they came out, it felt like a good idea, until I tried using the phones, and I kept having to realize, "Oh they expect me to press the menu button!" The whole thing just takes too much work to use.
