At over fifty, my eyes are not what they were. Having discomfort from looking at dark gray on metallic gray where the tool bars and other things sit at the top of Safari. Love the functionality but can anyone help with how I could change the colors so its not silly dark gray on gray?

You might try Safari Aquafier at:

What kind of monitor do you have? I use a new LCD at work, and a standard CRT at home. There is night-and-day difference in brightness, contrast, and sharpness/clarity between the two of them. When I go home and use the CRT, I feel like I'm looking through a haze...

Seriously, it could make a big difference if you're using a CRT to upgrade to a nice LCD screen.

Thanks, guys. Will try the acquafier. I am using the 17 inch 1.33 PB, which seems darker than the 15 inch 1.25 my partner is using. Don't know why?

Dumb question time: do you have the brightness/contrast settings up all the way?

actually an interesting thing about contrast: when I set it up even half way to max the screen content becomes so strange it is intolerable, hence I kept it at the normal level.

Aquafier really helped though!

Another thing to do is to do "expert" calibration in the Displays preference pane. It will optimize the screen's brightness for the room in which you use your computer. It does wonders.
