I am in the market for a video card to be used in a Dual 2.3 Ghz system.
I do not have time to do gaming, but I am looking for excellent 2D performance, DVD playback, Photoshop performance, etc...
Also, noise (or the lack of) is high on my priority list. (I saw the X800XT in a store and it was very noisy)
Which card (retail) would suit these requirements best?
Thanks.

Just get a Radeon 9650. Any recent card would handle your requirements to be honest, so you might as well get a fanless one.

Great, thanks.
Dumb question: can I buy a Radeon 9650 retail?
I can't seem to find it in stores or even in oline stores.

My advice with Video cards is always to buy the most expensive card you can afford. Especially now that Quartz 2D is making such good use of it even if you aren't a gamer.

VRAM is becoming more and more important. If I knew I wasn't going to be gaming, VRAM would be very high on my list of desired featured.
