...who's a registered nurse. I think she might be in California but I'm not sure. I found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurse_registry but haven't had any luck.

I have some family news that I really need to share with her.

If you have the money, I'd recommend hiring a P.I.. I've used them to locate people on occasion, even overseas, and I've always had success within 12-24 hrs.

I can recommend the Jacobs Group in Nashville, TN.. Their rates are reasonable and they're very discreet.

Or MySpace. It is definitely worth a shot for a beginning.

I'm not sure if RN's are public record. If they are, and you cannot find her in the California registry, then a) she may not be in Cal or b) she may have been married.

How does one manage to lose track of one's sister?
Other than the way I lost track of mine, that is.

Did your sister change her name?

Maybe whitepages.com?

Facebook/MySpace is a great place to start. I have found MANY old friends that way. Also, Google. A quoted Google search, of course.
I have returned... 2020 MacBook Air - 1.1 GHz Quad-Core i5 - 16 GB RAM

No, I just wanted to learn about some other people's experience. I kinda like the idea of hiring a PI. Now that's a perfect example of why I decided to make a post to an Internet forum, to get some idea of what other's in my position may have done.

No one in your family knows where she is? Did she run off?

Something about this story is very sad. I feel sorry for you that your relationship with your sister is so strained that you don't even know where she is.

My brother can be annoying, but man... I can't imagine things being so bad between us that I couldn't even find him.

Good luck.

Hey, I just tried your white pages suggestion and got a response with a phone number that has the same prefix as the last known cell phone number for her. I'm not getting an answer right now, but I'm gonna keep trying.

It's been about 2.5 years since I've spoken with her. But my mom says it's been over three years since she's spoken with her daughter. You're right, it's very sad. Especially since the reason I'm trying to contact her is that I just recently learned that our father has died

I was able to get her RN license number through www.rn.ca.gov. The information there gave me a county where she's either living or working, I'm not sure. I called the two hospitals in that county and neither one had her working there. I guess I could try the various communities in that county and see if I can come up with something.

She may be working at a retirement center, hospice, or some other type of work other than a hospital.

With a license listing from a government page, you should have a correct last name now. Redo your phone number search - most results can be ignored if they don't map within 100 miles of her listed county. Assuming she didn't move since the last license update.

If there's a nurse licence, wouldn't her present employers have had to check it with someone when she started working there?

Well this really destroys the idea of having an unlisted address and phone, although my phone at least is still unknown.

Huh..that only returned stuff you can find by googling my real name or my screenname. Fortunately, I've been using a cell phone as my only phone number for more than a year, and searching that comes back with nothing.

Also: People shouldn't be too quick to judge or make assumptions on the fact that the OP hasn't talked to his sister in such a long time. You have no idea why his relationship has become that way, and the reasons may be perfectly legitimate.

Yeah, that site may be somewhat useful as a Google and social networking focused search, but it didn't come up with anything you couldn't find from those sites directly. If you want disturbing search results, look at Zabasearch.

Good luck finding your sister, Dale.

Actually, here in the UK it came up with a whole lot more than a standard Google session would come out with. Information off the electoral roll, for example.

Luckily, Doof took advantage of a legal loophole and got himself off the electoral roll. You can actually see in the search results when this happened and the trail went "dark".

The UK makes its voter rolls Google accessible? That's laughably lame.

Ok, that's disturbing. I may have just discovered a whole new branch of my family. Through the closed court records of their multiple domestic abuse cases...

They check with the state licensing people. That office is responsible for ensuring the licensee is who he/she says and that the license is current and no sanctions (practice limitations for various reasons, suspensions, etc.) are in place. Texas' Board Of Nursing is very diligent about making sure the people who present themselves as licensed RNs are who they say they are. But they don't release any personal information to anyone.

Update: I've got a few more ideas on hospitals to call on Monday, as their personnel departments are closed on the weekend.

Sorry folks, I didn't mean to have this thread devolve into a creepy search engine discussion

Thanks for everyone's help

Holy sh*t, this site just informed me I have two flickr accounts. I guess I must have registered one aeons ago (under the name Oisín, too!) and forgotten all about it. Hah.

It’s also got six year old posts from in various discussion groups (that’s not what they’re called … what are they called? All those alt.whatever.whatever groups? Blanking on the word here). Reading some of them, I can actually vaguely recall some of those conversations.

This is awesome!

(Strangely enough, though, it doesn’t bring up my regular flickr account, nor my address or telephone number, though both are easily available on krak.dk, dgs.dk, eniro.dk, etc.)

Edit: Apparently, there’s a girl/woman somewhere in Belgium who shares my father’s name, too. And I thought the combination was rare enough to be unique to him.

UseNet.

Man, my entry has three UseNet posts from 15 years ago in there (before I knew better than to not use a real name). Must remember to nip down to Deed Poll and change my name in the next few months.

My dad’s name is Kelly—so yeah, kind of.
