I have never heard of renting ipads, but it makes sense. sometimes you only need for travel etc.

What's your purpose in renting?

iPad and smartphone rentals should be a more common business, in the wake of boatloads of people feeling remorse for their 2 year agreements.

I think dealing with the theft/loss/damage would be too much of a hassle.

They did the "Test Drive a Macintosh" thing in the 80s.

One thing you have to realize is that a large proportion of people are complete assholes, and doubly so about stuff that doesn't "belong" to them.

Dealing with tech rentals is expensive and stressful, and, while certainly something that's fine for third parties, nothing I'd fault a manufacturer for not getting into.

I know of no manufacturer of cars or other large/expensive items that run rental services for their products as well.

It's a third-party business. There's plenty of companies that do this. Computer rentals have been around for ages.

The question posed in this thread is "WHICH ONE?"

Tablet Rentals from Vernon Computer Source

I've rented $2000 camera lenses for vacations. Great value when you only need something for a short time.

It's called putting a new iPad on Credit and returning it before the 14 day return period has expired.

I think the iPad is selling well enough as-is without renting.

Totally different market segment that someone besides Apple could exploit.
