My wife is taking an online course, and has been able to open class readings which were in the form of pdfs simply by clicking the link. Usually she can click the link, and the pdf opens in the browser. Just today she tried the same thing, and now the browser opens a new tab, and she gets a blank page, but the url appears up top as it should.

Using my MacAir it works fine. I'm on 10.8, while she's on 10.7.

Any ideas what's causing the problem?

Thanks

I've seen this in a friend's computer once, running 10.6. Never found the cause, and showed him how to download the link. The PDF always opens when saved as a local file.

mine does the same thing running 10.4.11. just a blank white page. it's crossed my mind to investigate it but i haven't gotten around to it. i suspect the culprit is the machine is looking for a version of adobe which i don't have. strange, it used to automatically open with preview.

Hold down Option while clicking on it. That usually works. Alternatively, right-click and save to disk. It might say "save link to disk" or something else, text varies by browser.
