I was looking at other notebooks and thought to myself gee I am so glad Apple has a slot load drive on there powerbook line. I know the iBook doesn't have this feature yet but it will just give it some time. What do you all think? Do you like it or hate it?

I like it.
Why because it looks so damn cool, instead of a huge drive popping out there is thin line where you can stick the cd in there and it gets sucked in that instant. One thing I don't like is its not removable but who cares we get a super thin laptop to confinscate for that.
*Mind my typos*

Slot loading is sweet. Just like the trend in cars now a days, is to have slot loading cd players, computers will all eventually have slot loading dvd/cdrw drives or whatever they want to have.
It just looks so cool.

I like the slot loader more than the traditional "cup holder" because it is more elegant and sleek. The problem with slot loaders is that there isn't a DVD/CDRW drive for them yet; that's why the ibook with its cup holder can have multiple drive options.
The only thing I don't like about my TiBook's slot is the groaning noise it sometimes makes when I insert a DVD with a lot of graphics on its face.

Slot loading is cool but it can't read some CD with credit card format or mini CD (8cm) because it's too small to fit :-(

slot-loading drives suck big time, just wait until you get a disc stuck in it... who cares about the non-removablable slot-loader? how about those who have to ship the entire 'book back just because of a faulty optical drive?

Ya that would suck, but how is that going to happen unless the hardware is screwed. If you take proper care from the start everything can go well. I am still for this slot load idea and always will be.

Its dumb because: Can't fit odd sized or odd shaped CD's.
Its good because: No chance of bending/breaking off your tray.
I don't like it, myself, for one reason - its on the front!
Damn stupid. It should be on the right hand side, IMO. That way, when its on your LAP (LAPtop), you don't have to move it to put a CD in. Sure even if its on the side you might have to move it away from a seat arm to put something in, but its easier to do so (don't have to sit the thing back on its screen), and chances are theres already more room anyway (and all you have to do is tilt it left a little).
For that reason alone I don't like it. But then there are the aforementioned difficulties associated with discs getting stuck, other objects getting stuck in there (PC USER: "hey! cool floppy drive!"), for example, if you have it in your bag and a small object falls into it; and the inability to use small or oddly shaped CD's.
Quite simply tray drives are more functional because they can handle more media types.
