Been around the world - Lisa Stansfield
Careless Whisper - George Micheals
Died in Your Arms Tonight - Cutting Crew

Take These Broken Wings was by Mr. Mister

And anything from the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack would qualify.

I have a Greek version of Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, called Kaneis den mas stamata, which means "Nobody is stopping us." Released in 2005, by some Greek Boy Band called "One."

Oh, and then there's always:

Just as I am - Air Supply
Oh Sherrie - Steve Perry
Eternal Flame - The Bangles
Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx
Never Gonna Let You Go - Sergio Mendes
Up Where We Belong - Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes
Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon
Making Love Out of Nothing at All - Air Supply

And yes, I proudly admit that all of those are on my iPod, including several from your list as well.

ah, imdb to my failing memory's rescue:
That was the summer of 1963 - when everybody called me Baby, and it didn't occur to me to mind. That was before President Kennedy was shot, before the Beatles came, when I couldn't wait to join the Peace Corps, and I thought I'd never find a guy as great as my dad. That was the summer we went to Kellerman's.
what are you making this mix for?

Wow, who knew dirty dancing was in 1963. As I kid I used to watch Wonder Woman and had no recollection that every episode was in the 40's and involved Nazi's somehow.

Anywho, this mix CD is for my friends. They are in Australia for a year and don't have high speed internet so I always burn them mix CD's and send it there way. I want to send them some cheesy one as they make fun of them just as much as I do.

I would call only a few of them less than "good." And let's all remember that "the '80's" was a TEN YEAR PERIOD spanning from the end of the '70's to the begining of the '90's. That means that there's no such thing as "an 80's song," though you could split it up into early, mid-, and late '80's.

I think genre is more important in deciding what's a "good love song" over what decade it was recorded in.

And can someone tell me how "Relax" or "Too Shy" qualify as love songs?

I should add two songs from the mid-'80's that were pretty nice for my wife and me: "Living Inside My Heart" by Bob Seger and "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin (though it wasn't a "Berlin song," it was written by Georgio Moroder and he chose Berlin to perform it because of their musical talents, not their previous work). Both songs were from 1986.

I think "our song" started out as Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" from 1981, but Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" was a close contender too (though that one's ten years older).

Agreed. All of the songs I listed are in my iTunes library.

Heh. You got me on "Too Shy." In my defense, I winked after "Relax." Technically, it's about, er, making love.

My favorite song is "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. While it's by no means crappy, it's entirely appropriate because of the Australian connection.
