I am so incredibly sad.
I am afraid my dad is going to die soon and I want to cry but I can't because I am at work and in English Canada it is not permitted to have feelings.
Monday, I was coming back from Quebec city and it took me 19 hours to travel between 2 Canadian cities.
The stewardess on the plane coming back to Calgary asked me if the doctor gave me medication to take because I was crying quitely in my tiny seat. First, I did not see any doctors why should I. I thought it was extremely rude to ask me such a question.

My condolences.
You shouldn't be bothered by people actually asking you how you are, much better than `ignoring' when someone is crying IMHO.

I don't really understand the post. Your brother just died, and your father may die soon as well? That's pretty tough. Sorry to hear about your loss. : \

I'm sorry, Monique. I can't imagine losing my brother at this stage in my life. I hope you make it through this ordeal okay. Did you brother have family? Wife? Kids?

I'm sorry for your loss. My uncle died over the weekend so I can really empathize. I remember you mentioned your brother being ill.
That stewardess' question seems pretty odd to me. Other than a sleeping pill or anti-anxiety medication, I can't think of any meds that would help with crying. Strange comment for her to make.

My brother has a son of 11 years old. I think it is very hard on him that he lost the parent that should have been there most of his life.

That's very sad. Give us an update in several weeks to let us know how he's coming along. I'll be praying for them.

When I lost my father, the best thing for me was having friends close by. Everyone deals with loss differently. It dosen't help make you feel better now, but remember, life goes on.

Sorry for your loss, but what's with the canada bashing again? Here in Canada, if a close relative dies, you are allowed a leave of absense, I believe it's like a week. That is time for you to express and let out your feelings. And I don't know of any workplace that would frown upon you crying if your brother, or father died. Get over it, or get a new job.

I pretty much said the same thing and a mod deleted my posts.
Anyway, wait till you see where your advice takes you with her.

Are you an atheist??? A nice comment but I am a little confused coming from the source...
As for the comment from the stewardess, we unfortunately live in a society that feels that drugs make the problems go away. It is perfectly fine to cry in public. You are allowed to mourn however you want.

Oh dear, Monique. I am so sorry for you. I wish there was something I could say to hold your heart so you could at least have some respite from all this.
Please know that the pain will pass and will one day be replaced by only warm and wonderful memories. Live for the day when your own happiness would be so loud and bright and infectious that it would make him smile in Heaven.

My sympathies go out to you, Monique. My aunt just died and her funeral and wake is tomorrow so I know what you're going through... It's really tough but just hang in there and you'll get through it.

You asked about her brother's status as a Jew, you asked in a public thread and as a Jew I felt it proper to respond to you.
When a friend or acquaintance experiences a loss, I express my sincere condolences regardless of the faith of the deceased, but that's just me.

Sorry Monique; I hope you feel better soon.
And, yes, we've managed to make airline travel abysmal, uncomfortable and dehumanizing.
Condolences.

My condolences. I'm sorry to hear about your loss but you have a right to time off for bereavement from your workplace under the law. This is not a matter of "English" or "French". Some people, regardless of culture have a hard time dealing with the emotions of others. Do not let that bother you as it is their problem.

It's not a matter of arrogance, but I did not see your first post; I apologize for claiming you failed to do something you actually did. I am still bothered by your question, but I'll let it drop in this thread because it's not germane, nor is it helpful to Monique to discuss it here.
Monique, try to remain strong. It is very difficult, but your brother would certainly want you to be strong on his behalf and for the rest of your family. My prayers are with you.

You shouldn't write things you don't mean. It cheapens the words the rest of use.

Some people say things without realizing the affect of their comments. Sometimes they just want to help, but come across as rude. The stewardess wasn't thinking clearly.

Time out. I don't see anything wrong with his original comment. I believe it was very polite of him. I think he was trying to be nice. He may not believe, but I believe he was just trying to be nice. It doesn't matter if he believes or not. It was the intent. He meant nothing but good will.
