Do twitter posts on an iPhone count as text messages against your plan? If so, then I'm fscked.

Only if you use SMS to send them. Use an iPhone app like Tweetie.

Okay, that's what I use. I guess I must have misread something in another forum that said twitter posts go through the sms servers at ATT, so they charged you for that.

Anyone try Twinkle yet? I'm missing the point of this.

Twinkle is my iPhone app of choice, but lately it has been unreliable (can't follow people from within the app, sending duplicate tweets). Anyone know of any other Twitter client that also supports geotagging tweets?

So pretty much what I said. Its niche groups that Twitter appeals to.
Most people won't find a relevant reason to incorporate it into their daily online habits.
I doubt the site will disappear. In fact I think it grow but not by the margins they've seen lately. Once the fascination its gotten this year levels out it will end up lagging far behind facebook and myspace.

I still think Twitter is awesome. It's free texting, for the most part.

I guess it's success will depend on a number of factors. CB Radio (very literally "the twitter of it's day") was very popular. I believe it got blown out by lack of capacity. (People that hogged bandwidth, people that yapped too much with things that offended others.) I think if Twitter can avoid those two potential "gotchas" then they will remain popular (at about Facebook levels). If not .... then you may be exactly right.
