I have an old Mac Pro Desktop that I can't upgrade above Mountain Lion. I want to be able to use iMessage. I would only use it by remoting in from a work computer (no personal electronic devices allowed). I have a copy of VMWare Fusion that I use to use for a virtual windows OS. I have a newer MacBook Pro that died but I was able to get a copy of the Mavericks installer file before it crocked..

Would I be able to use VMWare Fusionvand the Mavericks installer file to install a virtual copy of Mavericks on a Mac Pro that doesn't support Mavericks?

I really don't want to buy a new MacBook Pro. The desktop works fine and suites all of my other needs. Of course, if Apple would create a web based version of iMessage, this wouldn't be a problem.

If the version of VMWare Fusion you can install supports Mavericks, this will work, but I can't imagine how painfully slow it will be to have a virtualized Mavericks thrashing away at a SATA disk and using the emulated (full virtualization, as opposed to paravirtualized) hardware restricted to whatever amount of RAM you have installed.

It sucks that iMessage is not open.
