I suspect most folks here do not visit casinos very much, but I do, and I did something last night that DIRECTLY helped a woman win quite a bit of money. Here is a brief synopsis.

I play a "knock off" of Blackjack called Spanish 21. Last night, I was playing the next to last position on the table. The last person (a woman) first drew 2 7 of spades, and the dealer revealed a 7 of diamonds. That is a setup for the Super Bonus in that game. The first person took a hit, drew an ace, and stayed on his 16. The second person had a 20, and thus stayed. The third person (a woman to my right) had a 10, doubled down, and drew an 8. I had a 13, took a card, and pulled a 3, for a total of 16. Most of the time, I'll hit on a 16 if the dealer is showing a 7, 8, 9, picture card, or ace (there are no 10 cards in Spanish 21), but sometimes (although rarely) I stay. But, I decided to take a hit, drew a picture card, and thus busted. Then, the last person hit, and drew a 7 of spades! That means she got the Super Bonus! Based on the size of her bet ($25 of more), she won $5,000. The casino gives every other player at the table $50 each. The woman also tipped the other 3 players $50, tipped me $100, and tipped the dealer $200. It was definitely exciting, and rewarding!

Hope, "what goes around comes around", and when my wife and I go to another casino tomorrow night, i can win some more $$$$.

I stay away from blackjack precisely because of this.

I'd be the guy who ended up taking her 7.

Somebody else won. I'll pat myself on the back every time that happens from now on.

In fact, I'll do that right now, because the other guy got the lady this evening. *pat pat*

Yay for good deeds!

You gave a bunch of money to a casino. Money you could have spent on something that someone got paid to make or do.

Did you decide to bust just so she could get the bonus? Not sure how that would work since you could have actually won. If so then yay for good deeds.

Did you take a risk on the card to try for the bonus, lost out but she won, in which case is that a good deed? She just benefited from your gamble not working out. Lucky her. Sounds just like every other game of cards ever.

This is why I don't buy lotto tickets -- altruism. Someone else will always win the jackpot.

I did several billion good deeds today and hence most of you will still be alive to read this. You're welcome.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Thanks. I totally wasn't referring to my doomsday machine that I decided not to activate.

I feel slightly bad that we have all taken the wind out of Akent's sails. Justified or not.

It's obvious you did not read my initial post correctly, and that you don't know how to play the game. I'll try and explain it another way.

Blackjack/Spanish 21, for the most part, is easy to understand. If you have 16, and a dealer shows a 7, 8, 9, 10 (no 10's in Spanish 21), or picture card (Jack, Queen, or King), there is a good chance (somewhat less so in Spanish 21) there is a 10 card underneath. So, simple math says that 16 does not beat 17, 18, 19, or 20. For the dealer showing an ace, it often happens that they have a small card underneath, like a 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. That is a very dangerous combination (more so in Spanish 21).

In any event, some people stay on 16, while others, like myself, hit on 16 because of what I said above. I hit the 16 to try and beat the assumed 17 that the dealer has (turns out he did not have 17; had (I believe) 13). I would have hit the 16 no matter what other players have, because 1) that is the way I play (hit on 16 with the dealer showing a 7 or greater), and 2) that is an acceptable play. When I played Spanish 21 last night, I hit on every 16 I had, with the dealer showing 7 or more, and in almost all cases, I got a card that was less than a 6, thus staying in the game. Again, I am consistent with that.

If I had got, for example, an ace, 2, 3, or 4, then I would have still been in the game, and if I won, I would have won my bet of $10. But, even though I busted (and lost my $10), it turned out WAY better, as I got $150 based on how I played it. Plus, the woman got her $5,000 (plus some more, based on her getting 3 7's).

I think that's enough trying to explain the game here. Don't want to "tax" people's brains too much!

I actually had a chance to get the Super Bonus once, but the person before me took my 7 of diamonds. But, I did not bemoan her for that, as she played her cards correctly. As long as people at the table know how to play the game, and do not do stupid things, then I am OK. Unfortunately, there are some nights where it seems like "amateur/rookie night", where someone who does not know how to play screws up the hand (or hands) for everyone at the table. I usually leave and go to another table when that happens.

Yes, I would have felt bad taking her 7. But, I played the hand correctly, and while quite a bit of the game is also based somewhat on luck, there is still certain strategies/actions that one needs to follow.

All in all, I am basically even in all the years I have been playing Blackjack/Spanish 21. There are, of course, ups and downs, but again, I am OK. I am also not a heavy bettor (sometimes that works to my detriment, as on a number of occasions, I am having a good night, and I should increase my bet/bets).

Great! That means you gave the woman to the better man. Very commendable. Way to go!

That's OK. I certainly don't expect anything better (or mature) from this group.

But, thanks for that.

That sounds good, and of course, no surprise, given the types of folks around here.

Obviously, you did not read my post correctly. Here is what I said:

"The casino gives every other player at the table $50 each. The woman also tipped the other 3 players $50, tipped me $100, and tipped the dealer $200."

Duh, that means I got $150. As it is, I walked away after the next hand, having won a total of $270. So, where did I give "a bunch of money to a casino"? Seems the exact opposite.

And you're not even kidding.

You have an astounding array of issues.

Do you call that "posting maturely"? Or is that more an admonishment to yourself?

That's right, I am not kidding! I was just responding to your post about good deeds. Since you decided to post immaturely and indirectly "chastise" me, I had to do the same. Hey, I am just speaking down to the level of the person I am communicating with.

All folks have to do is post on topic, and in a mature fashion. Then, things will be good. But, when they choose to do, as you did, all best are off, so to speak.

Again, though, congratulations on your good deed, and giving that woman the better man. At least that is one mature thing you did!
