If it's a 500, then it probably has a 66 mhz system bus (unless you took it apart and made some changes with a soldering iron). I would say that the system alone is worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $1000. You can probably get more by selling the Airport and RAM separately, or maybe $50 more if you bundle the whole thing. If you want up-to-the-minute pricing, I would recommend going to ebay and viewing completed auctions on similar products. That is the best way to get a feel for what it is worth.

No. The second generation had 500 and 600 MHz systems with a 100 MHz bus. Since he only has had it 5 months, I'm sure it's one of these machines. The other clue is th 15 GB drive as opposed to 10 GB in the first ones.

I'll go check in a minute.
EDIT: Yup, according to Apple the 500 MHz (all models) were 66 MHz system buses.

I would say you could get maybe $800 or so for that. Put it on the Buy and Sell forums first since it is free and see what people say. If no one takes it there, you will have a better idea for a price and put it on eBay.

I just sold my 500MHz DVD iBook for $900. When I sold it, Apple had some refurbs for that price, and Smalldog has that model right now for $899, so I figured that was fair. I showed those prices to the guy who bought it so he knew I wasn't ripping him off. I also threw in 256MB of RAM and the AV cable. (Okay, I had no use any more for either of those things.) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Hello,
MrNo, I'm not too sure what iBooks were available in December, but the iBooks that were most recently available before the 700MHz upgrade were as follows:
500/66 with 128MB 15GB CD-ROM and 12.1"
600/100 with 128MB 20GB DVD-ROM/CD-RW 12.1"
600/100 with 256MB 20GB DVD-ROM/CD-RW 14.1"
This information is from the iBook Specification Sheet that I have in front of me. However, I'm not too sure if there are differnces between Canadian and American iBook model specifications, as I received this brochure in Canada. (Although, I doubt there is.) If this is true, it could also explain why Carl Nurman has a different opinion.
This is the brochure I received when I had decided to get the 14.1", but I changed by order just as the new iBooks were announced. I was happy that I didn't get "stuck" with an "old" iBook.

Don't start spreading lies just because you think thats what you read 6 and a half months ago.

I sold my 500/66 with CD-Rom, 192 ram, 10gb HD, and airport card for $1000 plus S&H, but that was about 2 months after they came out.

What's all this about spreading "lies?" It seems like a simple misunderstanding to me... The specs on iBooks can be confusing, as when Apple began shipping combo drives that burn CDs at 8x (if I remember correctly...) while the official specs still stated that the burner was a 4x model.
