...or end of ways?
Okay, hypothetically speaking suppose for a moment the Mayans really knew something was up. By now everyone has heard about some big event supposedly happening December 21, 2012.
There's usually clues to upcoming catastrophic events (man made or natural) before they happen even though sometimes we aren't aware of them until the crap has hit the fan...
So my question is this; Is all the crap that's happening now (I don't need to mention them do I?...there's lots) some build-up to a main event or just all hogwash? Have little imagination. Pretend you have some vision.
Mass starvation, polar shift, revolutions in countries that we wouldn't think of or haven't had for a long while, atomic stuffs or just a mild day for December 21st.
Have a hunch, have a go.

It ain't just the Mayans though, is it?
Here's what the Hopi have to say about it:

The only thing that is going to happen on December 21, 2012 is that it will most likely be cold in Ohio and warm in Australia. In other words, nothing. In the 33 years that I've been around, I've seen all sorts of doomsday-type predictions, and each time people say, "Well, this is the REAL one, for sure!" And then that day comes and goes, and nothing. Then you don't hear anything for a while until someone figures out what the next one will be.
I'm planning on a relatively uneventful day that day.

Hopi...
Me thinks that Hopi guy did some wild peyote and drew that himself. Looks like a fire truck goin' through a corn field to help that guy put the burning cross out. Hey...burning cross...maybe a race war?!!?
Mayan...
Much prettier. Mayans were obviously good at graphic design. Hopis suck at art.
I say a polar shift by a few metres.

But the end times are already here! They started with the second coming of God's human incarnation: His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of Kings of Ethiopia and Elect of God

OK, maybe it's a field of ganges and not corn.
Begun in Jamaica in the 1930s, the Rastafarian movement perceives Haile Selassie as a messianic figure who will lead the peoples of Africa and the African diaspora to a golden age of peace, righteousness, and prosperity.

A friend of mine said the guy who made the calendar died and that's the reason why it ends on 2012.

The only thing that will happen on 12/21/12 is that we (residents of the Sol System) shall pass through the center of the Milky Way.
And it's not like this just happens in one day, we've been moving through the center for thousands of years, but 12/21/12 is the exact center date. It's like a grand galactic solstice or something. So smoke 'em if ya got 'em! LOL

What do you mean by center? Our solar system is on the far outskirts of the Milky Way, we aren't, and never will be, anywhere near the center of the galaxy.

I'm confused too. That and we'd be, oh I dunno, destroyed by the black hole in the middle.

My bad - our alignment will be with galactic center as we move around it. This happens in a 25800 year cycle, give or take a few years.

Who needs maps, graphs and pictures if you've got a booth babe?
Any bets on what date will be the next apocalypse, after 12/21/2012? What date will people be afraid of next?

NASA claims the whole 2012 thing is internet hoax, which it may be. We'll find out soon.
Booth babes are, in fact, real.

That's a commendable effort. It needs to be publicly acknowledged.

That also makes no sense. Our alignment is always with the galactic center as we move around it. We are also always aligned with any other single point in space you wish to choose. In order for alignment to be significant there needs to be at least three points.

Why three? Two points can be aligned, as in this case. It just seems like we're stationary because the time scale is so huge.

The whole 2012 myth/legend hinges on the idea this (2 point) alignment takes place as the Milky Way galaxy passes through the center of the galactic plane. You can still have two points, but those two points are also in motion.
But your argument is likely correct, and physicists will agree that this whole thing is BS:

or not:

What is fascinating is that ancient cultures knew of the enormous time periods involved here.
