Hi there
I apologize for asking this question ahead of time, however I am still slightly confused which ram setup one should go with

I currently have a Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz with 2 gig ram (4x 512mb) and I am thinking about upgrading to a total of 4 or even 6 gigs

which would be a better setup (2 or 4 x 1gb) or (1 or 2 x 2gb)

I am planning to purchase this RAM from the link below:
Mac Pro Memory - Mac Pro Quad Xeon Memory, Mac Pro 8-Core Xeon Memory DDR2 667MHz Fully Buffered 240 Pin DIMM PC5300 Upgrades at OtherWorldComputing.com

and it would be better to go with the ram situated on the left as it has been certified?

Thank you

2x2GB+4x512MB vs 4x1GB+4x512MB is basically a wash... even if you plan on going to more than 6GB in the future, the increased cost for 2x2GB vs 4x1GB mitigates the free slots (which you could get by tossing 2x512MB).

Try 2x1GB and if you're still having page outs with your normal workload, pick up another 2x1GB or 2x2GB.

I'd go with Crucial for marginally cheaper prices (and I'm not a big fan of OWC).

Remember to put the bigger modules in the 2 slots closest to the logic board on each riser.

currently i have 1.1 mill pages in
and have around 700k pages out

so if i were to get the 2x1gb
i would place it as following?

Riser one
1gb closest to logic board
512
512

Riser two
exact same

No. As I said in my last post:
put the bigger modules in the 2 slots closest to the logic board on each riser
(emphasis added).

So on one riser:
1GB
1GB
512MB
512MB

And then just the 512s on the other riser (but in the slots closer to the logic board).
