Heineken is not "bad" but only when compared to wimpy American beers like Bud and Miller. A really robust beer that has decent flavor beats the green bottle all the time. But I still like their commercials.

Young's and Guinness plus a LOT more (I've until now tasted more than 100 different beers - of course not in a row!)...

Bud and Miler are not beer, but more urine coloured water.

Actually, you CAN sell rice beer in Germany.

But you CAN NOT brew beer in Germany and call it beer if it contains anything other than hopes, malt, water (plus, optionally, yeast and wheat).

Ok, just tried something worse than Miller or Bud. It was a Maternus Gold which came in a 500 ml. plastic bottle - really classy!



Avoid it at all costs. It tastes like water with a hint of malt and salt, and has a colour like an urine sample! Nasty...

But one thing is wine (which can come in glass or plastic bottles, or in cardboard boxes - and still taste good. But I really believe that beer should come in a glass bottle. It might just be me, I might just be a snob?

This reminds me of some high school trips to the Czech Republic in the early 90es.

We'd go and take 1/2 gal Coke bottles and have them refilled with beer at the train station pub before boarding the train. The refill cost like $ 0.30. For about 1/2 gal of beer. Can't beat that price

Living abroad for 8 years, I found that Heinekein was the most common beer to find, so you develope a taste for it much as people swill Buds.

In other words, it's good for general beer drinking but not when you can get the good stuff.

They recently started selling Heineken Light here in Sint Maarten. You might as well be drinking water. What a joke.

I like all kind of beers. I love to experiment with the micro-brewery beers. I don't know why everyone bitches about beers like Bud. For a pale lager I think it's just fine (although I suppose the addition of rice may be deemed blasphemous).

For some reason, Young's actually packages their products, including Double Chocolate Stout, in aluminum cans. I don't care if it's a bit less expensive, I will NOT buy that. I will buy it in bottles and be happier.

They use malt barley that's roasted to a chocolate brown, then they add real chocolate to the brew. It has a rich, complex flavor that you actually can taste the chocolate in. So it's a stout (+), it's rich for a stout (++) and it's got subtle but definite chocolate flavors (+++!). What's not to like about it?

To be honest, I thought it would turn out to be kind of sweet, but I tried it because my wife said she couldn't drink a whole bottle. It's not sweet, but it is great.

Hmmm... I can see how people might think it's "thin", as it does have a rather light taste to it. However, I didn't find it particularly fizzy, or at least not any more so than most of the commonly available bottled beers.

Outside of America, many higher quality wines are stored in a box. It holds the flavor a lot better than a bottle with cork/wax. A cardboard box just doesn't seem as fancy as a bottle, though.

Sorry, but that's wrong. One is a beer brewed in Germany by German brewmasters according to the German purity law. The other is a beer brewed wherever under license. One is of higher quality than the other. That doesn't mean that you have to like it, but there is a difference in quality there that has little to do with being subjective.

I'm told that the closer to Dublin you have it, the better it is. The closest I've been is Topronto... Which means I've only ever had Guinness in bottles or in local bars that thought they were cool. The one place I might have had it served right I'm quite certain I never had Guinness in (Maggie Mae's in Austin). Pity...

I don't remember the last place I had Guinness draft, but it was here in Texas, and I wouldn't bet that the guy behind the bar knew stout from Starbucks. LOTS of places call themselves "pubs" and even "Irish pubs," but I have it on good authority that almost all of them are full of it.

tsing tao is amazing in america
and absolute piss water in china...
although, I live a long ways from tsing tao, and i hear in the city itself it's pretty good...

but.. that said it used to cost about 10cents per bottle... (now its closer to 50cents) and thats still a good price for a beer.

Heineken in china is WAY better than tsing tao (which by the way, is pronounced ching dao)

I agree. I had Guinness a few times stateside and it was ok. But then while abroad, I was able to have a truly good pint and I've become a fan even though I prefer it with a hearty meal rather than by itself (liquid bread). I've not been to Ireland (London is as close for me), but you can get a good pour stateside if you look around. It's worth it.

At the Guinness Brewery, they teach you how to pour the perfect pint and then give you a certificate. It was fun.

Anyway, Heneiken is nasty stuff. I think I would rather drink Bud heavy than Heneiken.

For cheap beer I drink coors light. For enjoying, I drink sierra nevada pale ale, various sam adams, green monsta ale, dogfishhead 90 minute IPA, and some others.

I feel like wheat beers are for people that don't really like beer. Gross stuff.
