I've never been with a prostitute, but when I was single, I always thought if I was ever in Nevada, I would give it a go. I've heard it's pretty safe in a legal situation. When I was in high school and college, all my money went toward camera equipment, so I couldn't afford one anyway.

I don't expect much in the way of confessions on this one, but anyone had prostitution experiences? Good, bad, life altering? On either side of the deal? And what did it cost?

I see it the way that prostitutes do the society a favour - at least in Denmark, not everybody can get a girl just by snapping their fingers. For some this could lead to frustations, perhaps drinking - and it might end up in violence, sexual assult or something worse.

Prosititutes acts as an safety valve.

Of course not every "girl of the night" are in it for the money, some have a drugs problem, are forced into it...

What the hell is the point of giving a woman sums of money for working you up and then leaving? At least there is a rational quid pro quo from prostitution.

Nevertheless both options are poorly thought out. You can walk into any bar buy two drinks and have better sexual prospects from that investment. There's no need to spend the kind of money a stripper or hooker requires to get ass. That is unless you are ugly, obese, or just plain sexually undesirable.

With all that said, I think there is a very legitimate argument to be made that the majority of sex a man gets in his lifetime does cost him on some level.

Okay. I don't think my analogy is "wrong", but man, it's horribly constructed considering the point I'm trying to make.

What I'm taking issue with is prostitution being presented as a solution for the problem of men who would otherwise be criminals.

This is like the slave owner presenting "owning slaves" as a solution for the problem of having to work.

In both cases the solution is self-serving to the arguer, and in both cases it's the arguer who's the problem... not that they have a problem, they are the problem.


Of course, I'm guessing vexborg isn't someone for whom the legality of prostitution is the only thing keeping him from sexually assaulting someone, but he is making an argument on behalf of men who are.

Likewise, making the slave owner no longer a problem is (at least technically) an easy proposition, making the ****head who lacks self-control find himself some is a tougher row to hoe. Much of that lack of self-control is cultural, and we haven't even come close to doing all we can do to make that culturally unacceptable.

Until that point, that prostitution does serve a purpose as a safety valve is something over which we should be hanging our heads in shame.

I grew up in San Diego. Back when I was in high school the border crossing was very lax for Americans. So, being that Tijuana was only 30 miles away, we would go down there all the time. It was a lot safer back then too (in the mid 90's). Anyway, we would regularly hit up Adelita's and the Chicago Club. Back then it was about $60 for full service for an hour, but I am sure it has gone up. You had to go at the right time too, the quality of the women could vary greatly. Although, sometimes it was worse when the most attractive women were in because that was also when all of the really rich guys were there.
