Any reccomendations out there for portable, high
performance mini speakers that USB connect to a
new snow iBOOK G4? and if so, how badly do they
tax the battery?

thanks.

What I'm using is the Altec Lansing inMotion speakers. They're primarily intended for the iPod, and I use them with the iPod when I travel, but they also come with a cable that connects them to the headphone port of the iBook, and they sound great for their size. You can get better ones that are larger, but these sound surprisingly robust, plus I can use them with my iPod.

I don't use an iPod (yet) so is there
another brand out there that gets high
marks in reliability and performance
from laptop users?

I picked up the Creative TravelSound Speaker from the Apple Store last year. They use the standard mini jack connection and come with an ac adapter or can use AAA batteries. They sound pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. Works okay (not much bass) with playing music for myself. Sounds good for watching Dvds. I don't expect much from speakers this size, tho. Nice and portable. Speaker unit measure around (I'm guessing here) 6"long by 3"tall by 1.5"thick folded up. So that's the trade off, portability vs. sound quality. Am I happy with happy with 'em? Yah, I am.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

That link will stop working in a few minutes. You can't use Apple Store links.

This might work:

Cheaper than Apple is selling them for too, though it still seems like a ton of money to pay for something that is probably awfully tinny and bad-sounding. There's only so much you can do with such small speakers.

The JBLs look good, but I decided on the Creative speakers and will post back with feedback after I've received them.
