This is going to be my first iPhone on the 24th. But I have been updating my Mom's on my laptop and keep it backed up for her too. And we can just manually manage the different apps.
But how will we keep our contacts separate?
Would making 2 separate groups in the address book be good?

And any other tips for using 1 computer with 2 iPhones would be good too.
Thanks.

Probably a better idea to have two user accounts and sync each phone with a separate account. If your mom uses your computer much, it’s a good idea anyway (neither of you wants to know the other’s porn browsing habits). If she doesn’t just make the other user launch iTunes at login and use Fast User Switching to log into it before connecting her iPhone.

Oh yeah, and I suppose you’ll want to export her contacts/calendars and import them into the new user account.

Separate OS X accounts is the way to go.

Thanks. I thought about doing this before, but never really needed to.

I tried to sync her phone on her own user account so I could put the iOS 4 on her iPhone 3G. I was able to get her photos off and into iPhoto. But when I tried to sync her contacts into Address Book it only synced about 6 for some reason.
Any way to get them import all of them?
And I know it backs up her iPhone each time its connected to iTunes, Is it safe to do the update even if I don't get the contacts off of it?

Can a man and his mom share iOS applications if both iPhones are managed from the same computer? If so, how?

Well I still couldn't get her contacts off her phone. I did upgrade it to iOS4 though and it restored from the backup it does right before the update and she still has her contacts.
