hi,

i am soon to be ordering the dual 2.0.

i have a couple of quick questions on the 2.5 that i hope someone can answer.

1. how loud is the dual 2.5 system on a day to day basis? low and heavy usage
2. how hot does the system get? low and heavy usage
3. is there a likelyhood of any problems with the liquid cooling system?
4. do the fans constantly come on and off?
5. any other major and annoying problems with the system?

i could get the dual 2.5 but if it means having a loud or defective machine i think i would pass and settle for the 2.0

thanks,

it's really not louder than the dual 2.0Ghz system.

there is always a chance for a defective product, but it's not likely.

that's all I can say.

- - had my dual 2.5 since november; fans come on occasionally in heavy usage, but aren't bothersome or too loud - even when on, it's still much quieter than my XP system that sitting alongside. extremely quiet (is it running?) in low usage.

2. how hot does the system get? low and heavy usage
- - haven't noticed any heat at all - not monitoring temp.

3. is there a likelyhood of any problems with the liquid cooling system?
- - I guess it's a possibility . . .

4. do the fans constantly come on and off?
- - not for me - they ramp up occasionally, not often at all - using it mostly for music & photos, and bit of video

5. any other major and annoying problems with the system?
- - none at all - perhaps the best part may have been using the software update to easily copy all my data from my powerbook - got a new system and didn't have to install any software from original CDs - sweet!

We have two 2.5s in the office and they are no louder than the 1.8 (previous-generation) we have. The fans do rev up under load but apart from that, they are FAR quieter than the dual-G4s they replaced. Mine sits about 18 inches from my right ear and i barely notice it, unlike the constant roar of the G4 (which probably deafened me).

It's a tradeoff; you can have fans blowing loudly all the time, or have a quiet machine that occasionally kicks into high gear. Most of what we do doesn't really stress the processors, and when the fans do kick up they very quickly throttle back down again. Just don't expect the machine to be silent; it's not.

I don't think there have been any reports of trouble with the liquid cooling system, but if you're really concerned, or if you need to make your living with the machine, I recommend AppleCare.
